GROWTH ANALYSIS
Growth and development are great combination between many events on the
different levels, i.e., from biophysics and biochemistry levels to organism level and produce a
complete whole organism. Growth indicates size increase such as length increase, width or
broad increase, volume increase, and elastic mass or weight increase. Every parameter
illustrates a rare and different simple relationship between them in a growing organism.
Development is a changing series for organism along his life including growth and
differentiation. A changing series is a series of processes which lead to higher, better
regulated or more complex condition.
Principle: a simple growth model from a part of a plant can be described through a
measurement on a plant organ; leaf for example.
c. Procedures
1) Choose a healthy plant from your garden, for example Mangifera indica, Zea mays,
Jasminum sambac or another plant. The plant has to guarantee for getting enough
water and sunlight.
2) Choose two part of plant which will be used as tested plant, for example leaves, stalk,
fruit or another part which has limited or determinate growth.
3) The object of this experiment is a growing part of plant, for example a tip of leave, the
space between joint near tips of leaves or another part.
4) Choose the youngest organ which has measurable length or width. Give mark with
marker to the organ that you used.
5) When the organ which you used is leaf, observe and measure the length and the width
of the leave everyday at the same time.
6) Do the observation and measurement until the organ reach its constant size.
7) Record your data completely and make leave and stalk growth graphic.
