11 OPllONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ECO-MARK
11.1 Genera] Requirements
11.1.1 Any fire exnngursher havmg SIS Standard Mark qualifies for
conssderauon of ECO-Mark.
11.1.2 The products manufacturer must produce the consent clearance as per
provrsion of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollu/lon) Act, 1974,
Water (Prevenuon and Control of Polluuon} Cess Act, 1977 and Air
{Prevention &: Coturol of Polluuon] Act, 1981 respectively, along With

authonzation If required under Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, and tbe


Rules made thereunder to tbe Bureau of Indian Standards wbile applying for
ECO·Mark.

1LL3 The products may di~play m brief the criteria basetl on which the product
bas beenawarded ECO-Mark.
I LL4 The product may carry alongwilh instructions for proper use so as to
maximize product performance with statutory warning, if any, minimize waste
and method of safe disposal.
11.1.5 The matenal used for product packaging (excluding refills) shall be
recyclable, reusa ble or biodegradable.
11.1.6 The product must displaya list of critical ingredients in descending order
of quanuty present in percent by weight, The list of such critical ingredients
sball be Identified by the Bureauof IndianStandards.
11.2 Specific Requirements
11.2.1 The fire exungueher sball not contain any ozone depleting substance
(ODS) relevant to fire exungursbers Industry as Identified under tbe Montreal
Protocol ( see Annex A).
I I.2.2 Gas based extinguisbing media once discharged in the atmosphere should
not haveatmosphericlife lime of morethan a year (see Annex B ).
11.2.3 Chemical used should not have global wanning potential (see AnnexC).
11.2.4 The metalhc body and other metal parts of the fire extinguishers shall be
free of lead or lead alloys.
11.2.5 The coaling used for the metallic part shall not be fonnulated with
mercury and mercury compounds or be tinted with pigments of lead, cadmium,
chromium VI and their OXides. Excluded are natural impurities entailedby the
production process up to the amount0 1 percent by weight which are contained
