A Heritage of Smallness by Nick Joaquin

TYPE OF ESSAY - Narrative

TOPIC SENTENCE
In the essay "A Heritage of Smallness" by Nick Joaquin, he gave emphasis to how the Filipino people can
be so much satisfied with all that is little, all that is small and all that is just enough. A child who came
from a poor family would probably be poor for the rest of his life. It would be a common situation that
they will embrace the way of life of their parents. Instead of finding a way for them to have more
money, they will be just satisfied or contented and find fault with whoever they want to find fault with.

AGAINST FRATERNITY, FRATERNITY SHOULD STOP

RA No.8049. AN ACT REGULATING HAZING AND OTHER FORMS OF INITIATION RITES IN FRATERNITIES,
SORORITIES, AND OTHER ORGANIZATIONS AND PROVIDING PENALTIES THEREFOR.

When we hear the word “frat” it comes to our mind that it’s a group of people that doing something in
possible and we are all familiar to this because it is widely known for different name of groups of people.
And we are also aware to the effect of it due to the news about what happened to the member of this
group that is being abused.

Recently, the idea of partaking in a fraternity has become more prevalent. Young adults are captivated
with wanting to live the Greek life. The clothes and parties seem to drawn in teens like a magnet.
However what these teens do not realize is the terrible things associated with fraternities. Many
fraternities have a reputation for turning college students into drunks, treating women vulgarly,
enacting violent hazing against other fraternity members and may distract you from academic studies
and other personal goals while in school. Today, as never before, fraternities and sororities must
dedicate themselves to addressing contemporary issues.

Way back Pagka grade 12 nako 3 groups of fraternity ang nag cge og invite nko.

I was never a fan of fraternities. At first, I thought people who joined were just after the impression of
other people that they look cool because they have a fraternity. In addition there are alot of hazing
issues reported on media, which tells people that joining a fraternity is dangerous. Despite the negative
stigma against fraternities, the majority of the society will never truly know the hard-earned joy of being
initiated into a brotherhood, the bond that is tight enough to be considered family and the importance
of looking at the bigger picture.

Yes there's a lot of benefits of joining Fraternity such as security. Security is the main reason why some
students join in fraternity. They want to seek protection from others the thing that they thought they
can’t have from their family and friends. Fraternity have a advantage and disadvantage on a the student.
I am not saying that because a person is not a part of a fraternity, their chance of being successful is less,
even people that join fraternities sometimes turnout to be failures.

I personally disagree in fraternity hazing. In the present time, there are a lot of hazing victims already
and a lot of lives are lost, and I can say that this is where my disagreement about fraternity hazing is
rooted.

Furthermore, I strongly disagree about fraternity hazing regardless if it is an initiation to the

brotherhood simply because I believe there are so many ways that each fraternity can do initiation to
their brotherhood aside from hazing. But if fraternity hazing really complement fraternity, then I
suggest, fraternity should be prohibited or should be changed.

Being in a fraternity is not the basis for your success.
