Lesson 10: Learning Strategies

Preparation
Think about a strategy you use for learning English. It can be a strategy you use for
reading or listening. It can be a strategy for memorizing new words. Write a paragraph
to describe the process. Use 3-4 words from the vocabulary list. Write about why this
strategy is helpful to you. Bring it with you to the weekly gathering.

Missionary - Welcome (5 minutes)

You will lead the group in these activities. Please participate also. 95% of the time
should be students talking together.

You may use this presentation in the lesson.

Partner Sharing (5 minutes)

Discuss with a partner:
● What is one thing you learned this week?
● What is one thing you practiced this week in English?
● How were you successful this week in your English study?
● Did you achieve your goals?

according to the captivity and power of the devil; for he seeketh that all men
might be miserable like unto himself.

Discussion:
● What can we learn about our ability to choose from these verses?
● Why is this so important for us to understand in our life?
● How does this affect our studying English?

Lesson
Function: Describe
Scenario: Describe the process for using strategies for successful language learning.

Activity 1 (25 minutes)

Work with a partner. Share the learning strategy you described. Ask your partner
questions about the strategy. Switch partners 2-3 times to practice with more people.

Activity 2 (30 minutes)

Work in small groups. Try to use the strategies your friends described. See if you can
follow their instructions. Did the strategy work for you? Help each other. Keep practicing
the strategies to be a more effective language learner. Try as many as you can.

Partner Sharing (10 minutes)

Work with a partner. Talk about your goals for this week.
What are you going to work on? How do these goals help with your vision?

Testimony (2 minutes)
Share your testimony. How is the Lord helping you in your learning?

Missionary - Closing (5 minutes)
