Subject: READING IN PHILIPPINE HISTORY

1. What does the video tell you about the many different accounts?

It clearly states that historians remain baffled as to where and when the first Katipunan cry
occurred, whether it was at Balintawak on August 26, Kangkong on August 22, Pugad Lawin on
August 23, or Bahay Toro on August 24, all in the year 1896. According to some historians, all of
these locations are near Balintawak, and Bonifacio and the Katipunan are always on the move
to evade the Spaniards.

2. Is there a chance that all sources are valid?

No, because a descendant of the witness (Guillermo Masangkay) claims that the original date
was August 26 based on Masangkay’s very own documents but in Masangkay’s narrative the
revolution starts in August 23.

3. What other information on the revolution did you learn from the video?

After seeing the video, I learned a lot of new facts. For example, when the Katipuneros came at
Melchora Aquino's house on August 23, she fed them all, making the First Cry of Katipunan a
feast. The second point is that not all of Supremo Andres Bonifacio's fights end in defeat; on
August 25, in Sitio de Baclac, he defeated a Spanish force headed by Lieutenant Ros.
