I. Introduction
In electronics, a remote control or clicker is an electronic device used to operate another device
from a distance, usually wirelessly. In consumer electronics, a remote control can be used to operate.
It has to control a machine or apparatus from a distance by means of signals transmitted from a radio
or electronic device. It is also a device that controls a machine, especially a television or VCR, from
a distance.

II. Objective
To be able to properly gather anthropometric data and apply its relevance in such way as
redesigning the television’s remote control

III. Methodology
Initially, members will have to find a pair in order to measure the hand features. Members
are also assigned to examine their old, typical television remote control. Then, data sheet should
be filled out and then the redesigning process will come next. The leader will reevaluate
everything, and discuss to the members what the conclusions they have come up with and the
significance of the study they have found out along the process.

IV. Equipment/Materials Used

 Rulers (preferably in centimeters)
 Pencils
 TV remote controls
 Data sheet
V. A. Data Collection and Analysis

In order to determine which hand features to measure, you will need to observe how your partner uses a regular
remote control. Have your partner hold a remote in their hand and ask them to do the following tasks. Then record
your observations below.
1. Have your partner press the power (on/off) button. Yes
a. What finger(s) did they use to press the button? Index Finger
b. How was the remote positioned in their hands when they pressed the button? The two thumb finger control
the button while the index finger hold remote control and the rest three finger support the bottom of the remote
control
c. How easy or difficult was it for your partner to reach the button? It is easy for my partner because he is
expert doing tha
Features Measurement
Hand Length 176cm
Palm Length 103cm
Little Finger Length 16cm
Ring Finger Length 19cm
Middle Finger Length 21cm
Index Finger Length 20cm
Thumb Finger Length 15cm
Index Finger Height 26cm
Index Finger Thickness 2cm
Hand Breadth Minimum 11cm
V. B. SUMMARY OF ANTHROPOMETRIC MEASUREMENT
Anthropometric measurements are used to assess the size, shape and composition of the TV remote control
and to learn more about the common methods used to gather these measurements, such as prototypes. Simply
knowing how the TV remote control prototype works about their overall condition and to ensure that it measures
and record it properly according to their appropriate sizes in lengths, widths, and heights of the remote control
using the measurements that can be used by the designers in an industrial designs or prototypes. It helps to improve
our products by this and to upgrade in a common remote control.

VII. Conclusion and Significance of Study
Conclusion of the Study:
With this laboratory activity, we have concluded the following:
 Anthropometric data plays a major role in the process of designing equipments and things. They will serve
as the basis of designs and layout of tangible projects just like the remote control in this activity.
 Measurement should be measured rather than estimated, because they will be the foundation of establishing
percentiles which were greatly considered in categorizing in which population the design will fall into.
 There is a major and strong relationship between Ergonomics and Anthropometry because ergonomics
prioritizes designing work and equipments to become suitable to human work safety, which is basically what
anthropometry is doing, collecting data about human physical attributes in order to be a reference in
designing things.

Significance of Study
This activity primarily became an important milestone in studying Ergonomics. This made us realize that in
order to fully know and evaluate workplace layouts and working equipments, we should experience first the proper
processes and stages in designing one. Through the systematic approaches of Anthropometry, we've able to
conduct steps such as the data gathering up to the stage wherein we have utilized the gathered anthropometric data
in redesigning products or things. As Industrial Engineering students, this became a great opportunity for us to
appreciate matters more in Ergonomics.
