BEED 1-A
ACTIVITY
1. Role-Playing
Try to imagine a world without technology. How do you think your day-to-day life would
be like? Do this by illustrating a scenario where a certain technological innovation does
not exist. Below are examples you could use:
a) watch
b) phone
c) light bulbs
d) cars
e) printing press
2. Philosophical Debate
Discuss whether technology is a means to an end or an end in itself. The class will be
divided into two groups. The first group supports the notion that the technology is an
instrument to achieve human goals, and the second group supports the notion that
technology is what humanity does. List down pertinent points and construct an
individual position paper regarding your stance.
ANALYSIS (INDIVIDUAL)
A world without technology would be very stressful, and without the technology
that exists, we would have many problems that we don’t have today. There would be no
social media, no devices, and many other things that could change the way we live, but
some of those changes could be beneficial to our lives. Without technology there would
be no social media, which could mean needing to look for a new job or hobby, saving
time, and having less anxiety. Not having social media would benefit many of us
because we would start doing other things with our lives instead of being on Facebook,
Instagram, Twitter, etc. But we can’t deny that technology is very important when it
comes to education because the way we learn is sometimes with technology, such as
google classroom, zoom calls, facetime, and videos. Without technology, we wouldn’t
be able to access online courses to learn many things, such as investment or how to
become an entrepreneur.
2. Do you agree with Martin Heidegger in his idea that technology should only be
seen as one of the approaches in perceiving truth?
For me we should consider the reason, justification and the will to power.
APPLICATION- Based from the information sheets on the different topics in Lesson 2
Module 2, answer the following:
1. Which era do you prefer: Before the common-era or the present common-era?
Explain.
I prefer the present common-era because in this era we are much better off
compared to humans several centuries ago. In a way that we are advanced in all
aspects especially in medicine, technology, health, and in education. Due to technology,
fewer women and children die during birth, assuring a robust population and strong
workplace. Medical care for premature infants allows them to survive and develop
normally, while proper maternal care ensures that mothers can fully recover and remain
empowered. Aside from the reason that people engage less in combat and are less
likely to die in treatable diseases now as opposed to then, science is able to prolong
lives by enhancing living status and discovering different remedies to most diseases.
Distribution of medicines is also made easier now. While access in education like what
is happening now in this time of pandemic we use technology as part of our learning
system for us to learn even when we are staying at home. Even though it’s nice living
like in the common-era, we still need to choose what makes our lives easier.
