Visual Information

In many phases of academic and official sectors, one must need to use the visual information to
support or display his perspective and statistic information. It is also required for one to support
arguments with statistics. There are several visual devices used in these domains. These devices
normally include graphs and different types of tables, as these are convenient ways of displaying
large quantities of information in a form that is easy way to understand. This particular unit
elaborates and exemplify the method or ways of implementing these devices while preparing for
any academic or official projects.

The language of change:


Every sphere or domain of academic writing has a shift in the style of writing. If not style of writing, the
way of arrangement of words or syntax changes. Same happens for visual representation of information.
While elaborating a graph which shows the changes in any particular quantity or entity over time, past
tense is used normally. For instance have a look at beneath graph:

The above graph shows the annual change in trends of inflation rate and it can be elaborated as
follows:
 Inflation rate in Pakistan decreased steadily from 2010 t0 2015 and then rose up after 2015.
 There was a sharp decrease of inflation in 2015 but gradually it kept on increasing from 2016 to
2019.
Types of Visuals:
There are several types of visuals which can be used to support the factual information. Details of these
visual types are as follows:

Diagram:
Diagram is considered as the schematic information containing a drawing showing appearance,
structure or working of something. There are several uses of diagrams such as:

 Diagrams are used to provide a clarified, unambiguous pictures.


 Diagrams are easy to be understood.
 They take less time to be comprehended.
 Diagrams can easily be put together in meetings.
 Tempted way to start writing.

Tables:
A set of facts or figures displayed in designed columns and rows is called table.

There are several uses of tables and partially overlaps with that of uses of graph.

 Tables are used to organize information to systematically display relationships and patterns.
 These are also used for facts display.
 These are used for drawing a connective relationship between two variables.
 These are also used for publishing a report in an easy comprehendible forms.
