Behind the Mask

By Grazchelle Nicole B De Leon, 2020

The night was black as ever, but bright stars lit up the sky in beautiful. This is a
story of two brothers. One was a drug addict and a drunkard who frequently beat up
his family. The other one was a very kind man who sees good in people. One day,
Gon collapsed in the grass with tired and fiery muscles. The grass tickled his skin and
sweat cooled on his brow as he run because he punched his grandmother who didn’t
give him an allowance. The wind whistled and everything seems to be sparkling as
Killua walk through Gon to help him. Silence was broken by the thunderous shout of
Gon. “I always hated you! Why would you come out of nowhere and fixed every disaster
I caused! Why would you ever be good? Why would you ever save people?” Killua just
smiled because he knows what Gon is going through.

Gon is a very sweet son who always cared and loved his family. He always
dreamed of being a Police like his father. His family is always proud of him as he is an
honor student. His family always listens to him especially Killua who looks up to his
brother. He always loves his brother as he protected him always whenever he is bullied.
Not until one day, their mother and father died from a car accident. This is were Gon’s
anger is coming through. After the accident, his family acts like nothing happened to his
beloved family.

Gon was very devastated so Killua needs to be strong for his brother. But Gon
thought that Killua doesn’t care about what happened to their family as he always
smiled like nothing happened. Gon’s anger doubled that’s why he hates his brother
more than anyone and anything because he thought that Killua is the only one who can
understand him.
The golden rays of the setting sun touched Killua’s skin as he heared some
strange noise inside his room. And everything went black as he saw his toy, who was
given by Gon, broken. That’s when he realized that he has to fight his own brother. He
ran towards Killua and immediately punched him to his face. Gon was very shocked that
it took seconds before he got up and punch back Killua. They exchange punches. Many
minutes has passed and Gon noticed that Killua isn’t punching him back anymore.
That’s when he realized that Killua is letting him because he wants to release all his
anger and hatred towards him. Realization hits Gon. All those years that he felt lonely,
Killua was there for him. He always supported and protected him. A sweat gently
gushing from his forehead down to his eyebrow as he looks to his brother with teary
eye. He ran towards him and hugged his brother like there’s no tomorrow and murmur
something that Killua can’t even understand. “I can smell the scent of a sun-dried
through him, it feels like nothing happened and we’re okay. I miss my older brother.”
Said Killua on his head.

Together, they sat under the tree. Gon gave a candy to Killua that made him
smile as the candy melted in his mouth and swirls of bittersweet chocolate and slightly
sweet but salty caramel blended together on his tongue. The shimmering sun was
sinking into the sea and, as it disappeared, and remembering the good old days with
their family.

No matter how deep the wound is, remember that it will heal. It will leave a scar
but sometimes, a scar will be a lesson that will help us in life. We should also accept
everything for you to be fine. Give someone a second chance as we all know that we
deserve it but only if you are guilty. See good in people because behind a mask is a
person you will never understand so know someone’s wound first before judging.
Hope you like my story hehe because I really like it. I want to make it longer but soon I
will. The title though be really hitting hard
