Career Research Essay

A career in education is about very detailed and time consuming planning . Some of the

tasks and activities performed by a person in this career include grading papers and working with

students. In this career, a professional also informs students about extracurricular activities. The

role of an educator is to prepare their students for the next grade or next school they will attend.

For example, an English teacher will want to prepare you to have better grammar and writing for

later courses and classes. Overall, the educator’s job is to prepare students and work with

students..

A teacher must have several skills and abilities to do the job well. According to Danielle

Gagnon’s article “10 Qualities of a Good Teacher,” the skills required include collaboration,

engaging, and patience. Collaboration includes having to work with other teachers and staff.

Engaging includes having to do the work and not just lecturing while students sit. Patience

includes understanding that not everyone learns the same. Overall, a person in this career must

be comfortable with going at the students pace and communicating with students and staff. They

must be learning all the time.

The education required to become a teacher is a bachelor's degree, teaching credential,

and sometimes a master’s degree. People interested should prepare for working one on one with

students.  In addition, according to Achieve 3000, professionals in this career should be able to

read material at a Lexile of 1360. Regarding salary, according to the California Department of

Education, the median annual wage for a beginning teacher was $50,546 in 2020.  In the state of

California, the mean wage is the same. So, professionals in this career can expect to get more

money the longer they work in education.

  There are many careers related to teachers. One related career is a private tutor. This is

similar to teachers because they have the same job under different names; they both educate

people. However, this career is different in that private tutors usually deal with fewer students.

Another related career is an adult literacy teacher. It is similar in that teachers work with students

with learning disabilities..  However, it is different because one you're working with adults and

the other one is with high schoolers. In the future, I would be interested in an adult literacy

teacher because they are more flexible to work with.

I think I would be a successful teacher because I'm patient and engaging. The results

from my strengths, interests, values surveys stated that I make thoughtful decisions and have

well thought out ideas. This will help me in this career because I'm good at planning out what I

want to do and my goals. Another aspect that is going to help me is my interest in literature,

because it's something i've always been interested in.
