The boxes and bullets sheet will help students jot down their facts
Purpose and organize them in a coherent manor.
Launch:
Go to the classroom’s daily schedule and switch the order of some
of the periods. (Specifically, put breakfast, going home, lunch,
separate a double period, in random places of the day.) Then ask
the students if the schedule makes sense to them.
Mini-Lesson:
[Slide 4] First, explain to the students what strong informational
writing includes, which is a logical structure, strong opening
sentence, that it covers the whole topic and doesn’t repeat
information.
[Slide 7] Then, show them the example of the written chapter using
the boxes and bullets. The highlighted texts were extracted from the
boxes and bullets from before to emphasize the use of the method.
The text that’s underlined the elaboration of the related to the
highlighted text.
[Slide 8] Now, have the students write their chapter using a boxes
and bullets sheets for that section.
Learning Task
(During this portion, keep slide 7 displayed as an example for
students to reference back to as they work.)
Have students turn to their partners and share their boxes and

For struggling students, give them the boxes and bullets worksheet
where they can draw an image that matches their fact to encourage

ever order helps them best.
