The Phone Call

The sequence of events of the story.

Paraghraph 1.

1. Paul looked out of the window at the street that was still empty and it was getting dark,
sighed twice.
2. His father promised to come at 5:30, but until seven o’clock was not seen.
3. Paul feel that even though his father came right now he wouldn’t be happy playing catch
in the dark.
4. Paul sat down and do his reading homework, but couldn’t forget his father.

Paragraph 2

1. The phone rings at 8:00, and Paul listens to his massage.


2. His father said he didn’t come tonight because of work, and promised to take Paul to the
baseball game at the stadium next weekend.

Paragraph 3

1. Paul listens to massages from his father in disgust.


2. Paul understands his father’s job, but why his father can never unserstand him.
3. Paul thinks if no one else gets this bad massages and why should he be alone.
4. Paul falls on sofa and sleeps.

Paragraph 4

1. Next day at school, Paul didn’t turn in his homework, and failed a quiz.
2. Mr. Mathews, Paul’s homeroom teacher asked him to stay after the class ended.
3. When the bell rings, Paul grunts and waits at his desk.

Paragraph 5

1. Mr. Mathews asked Paul what was wrong with him because Paul was not like usual.
2. Paul didn’t want to tell about his problem to his homeroom teacher because if Paul told
him, he would be sad.
3. Paul just wants to feel his pain alone, so he kept quiet.
4. Mr. Mathews advices Paul to keep someone in the know about his problem, because it
can make Paul fell more relieved.

Paragraph 6

1. On the way home, Paul pondered the advice of Mr. Mathews.


2. Paul knows that lately he has become different, and he stopped doing his activities
because he was seeking attention from his father.
3. That night, Paul realizes that his problem with his father have ruined his life.
4. What did Mr. Mathews was right, and Paul decided to talk to someone about his problem.

Paragraph 7

1. After school, at night Paul called his father.


2. Usually, after incoming call to voicemail after ringing seven to eight times Paul will turn
it off, but this time it will be different.
3. Paul started talking on voicemail about his true feelings.
4. Paul says that he can’t go to the stadium next week as promised by his father because he
had a lot of homework to do.
5. Paul also shared that he felt very sick and disgusted when his father didn’t come that
night, but he wanted to rebuild his relationship with his father and said maybe one day his
father could do his homework together something.
6. At his last massage, Paul said “Dad, I love you, that’s how I feel”.

Paragraph 8

1. Shortly after speaking on voivemail, Paul felt the burden had been removed from him.
2. Paul doesn’t know if his father will change or no after hearing it, but Paul doesn’t mind
it, because Paul has changed.
3. Paul felt that he had expressed all his feelings to the right people and not just kept his
problems alone anymore.
4. That night, Paul can do his homework with a clear mind.
