January Meeting Summary
Our January general membership meeting was
held Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at 7pm at the
indoor range. The locks were changed at 5:30pm
and new keys were issued by appointment.
Thank you to members Brandon and Naomi
Rogers for the locksmith work that you have
once again done for us. Thanks to Cathy,
Michelle and Kim for a smooth process in
gathering new applications, waivers and issuing
keys and membership cards.
Elections results were discussed. There was a tie
for the 6th board member. Tabitha Zechmann
volunteered to shadow Kim Boyack to learn the
job of Secretary. Our 2021 Officers/Board of
Directors are as follows:

One of the main projects that our President
would like to tackle this year is going through the
Constitution and the By-Laws and making sure
that they are consistent. He would also like to
include the webmaster position in these
documents.
The President welcomed the new board members
and reviewed the official committees asking each
board member to take the lead on one of the
committees. The committees and new committee
chairs are as follows:

committees individuals are interested in helping

The Northwest Bowhunter Classic (Caldwell
Indoor) was discussed. Note: The shoot was
officially cancelled on Saturday, January 9th but
the following items were discussed:
 Inserts have been ordered. They are 1 –
2 months out so we will not be getting
them in time but will definitely have
them for Tripod.
 Need to follow up on buckles.
 There will be a gathering at the Dowell’s
on Saturday evening to put together
packets for the shooters.
***The Friday before, an emergency
meeting was called at the range to discuss
the shoot. Canyon County Fair mandated
that we only have 10 people in the
building at a time. Michelle created a plan
but it would have been very time
consuming. It was decided to cancel the
shoot.
 Need to solicit volunteers to cover a
variety of positions.
 Talked about competitive shooters that
are shooting additional rounds. Their
first round will count as their qualifying
round.
 Pete will let us know tomorrow about
hauling trailer for Caldwell Indoor.
 Kim will follow up with Carl Claycomb
to make sure he is still available for
announcing.
Saturday and Sunday, January 9th and 10th will be
the Southwest Idaho Shootout & IFAA State
Vegas Championship.
Still haven’t received shoot cards – Cathy checked
with Scott from ISB to follow up on shoot cards.

The Future of the Nampa Bow Chiefs
Range
Some of you may have heard a rumor about the
future of the Nampa Bow Chiefs range.
First, a little background. The land that the
building sits on is owned by the City of Nampa.
The building was built in 1986 by volunteers of
the Nampa Bow Chiefs, the Nampa Rod & Gun
Club, and the Idaho Department of Fish &
Game. Much of the funding came from Pittman
Robertson Grants.
The Idaho Department of Fish & Game officially
owns the building. They have a lease with the
City of Nampa that expires at the end of 2026.
The City of Nampa will not be renewing their
lease and; therefore, our lease with the Idaho
Department of Fish & Game will automatically
terminate. The City Department of Public Works
wants to expand their sewage treatment plant and
plan to incorporate the land that we currently
occupy in their expansion.
The City of Nampa has said that they have land
and vacant buildings that may work for us. The
Idaho Department of Fish & Game is currently
working with City Commissioners on finding a
solution.

2021 Memberships and New Keys
The locks at the range have been changed. If you
are interested in a membership for 2021, the
following is information on how to sign up for a
membership, pay and get your key (if applicable).
Memberships expire at the end of each
calendar year. All members are required
to complete a new application and sign
new waivers each year. Locker rentals are
also on a calendar year basis and can be
renewed online or in person (we currently
have no lockers available but you can
contact Kim Boyack if you would like to
be put on a waiting list). We have come
up with a couple of options for renewal of
memberships this year.

Food Drive Results
Fifty-three pounds of non-perishable food items
were donated to the Idaho Food Bank in
Meridian. The winner of the 4pm League, Chip
Hefflefinger, had the honor of delivering the food
to the charity of his choice and donated the food
in the name of the Nampa Bow Chiefs.
Congratulations and thank you to Chip!
Ceiling Tiles
The Idaho Department of Fish & Game
purchased ceiling tiles for the common area. A
work party was held on December 13th. The tiles
were installed in the lobby and in the common
area (classroom and kitchen). A big thank to all
that assisted: Pete, Stevie, Ashton, Michelle,

Buddy, Clayton, BJ, Mike and anyone else I may
have missed. Great work!
Cardboard Changeout
In preparation for the Southwest Idaho Shootout
and Idaho State Vegas Championship, the
cardboard in the indoor range was changed out
after league on January 4th and 5th. Thank you to
the volunteers that assisted: Adam, Clayton, Pete,
James, Marvin, Jack, Kim, Stevie, Rick, Sam, Joe,
Molly, Ella, Brook, Colby, Kevin and anyone else
I may have missed! Also thank you to Rick
Boyack who brought in his dump bed trailer and
hauled the cardboard to the recyclers – 730
pounds of cardboard that we kept out of the
landfill.
Southwest Idaho Shootout and Idaho
State Vegas Championship
This event was held on January 9th and 10th with
shooters coming from all over Idaho and 3 from
Utah.
The Southwest Idaho Shootout had 28 adult
shooters and 12 youth shooters. This was a
money shoot.
The highpoint shooter for the weekend was Jason
Cevering, from Utah, with a 599 36X.

Mini 3-D Tournament
In light of the cancellation of the Northwest
Bowhunter Classic (the Caldwell Indoor), the
Thursday night Animal League team (the Bollar
family) asked the board if they could put on a
miniature 3-D competition. With just one week
to get it publicized and organized the event was a
resounding success!
The event was set up and ran similar to the
Thursday night 3-D animal league and offered 4
shoot times. Each shoot time was limited to 20
shooters. A total of 50 shooters participated
throughout the day (with some shooting multiple
sessions). After payouts, the event netted around
$575. A huge thank you to Ryan and Michelle
Bollar and all their helpers. Great job!

Leagues
Paper target leagues are held on Mondays and
Tuesdays. The Vegas League is held on Mondays
and the NFAA League is held on Tuesdays at
7pm. We are limiting participation to the first 20
people to sign in and pay. ($4 per member, $5 per
non-member). We are shooting every other lane
to help with social distancing and shooters need
to keep social distancing while waiting to shoot,
scoring arrows and pulling arrows.
For those of you who are new to paper target
shooting, the Vegas target has 3 spots (or a single
spot for beginners). You will need at least 3
arrows. We shoot 3 arrows, 10 times
(ends). Scores are handicapped. A handicap is a
way to measure a shooter's potential to enable
players of varying abilities to compete against one
another. Better shooters are those with the lowest
handicaps.
The NFAA target has 5 spots (or a single spot for
beginners). You will need at least 5 arrows. We
shoot 5 arrows, 12 times (ends). Scores are also
handicapped.
The 3D Animal league is held on Thursdays at
7pm with the number of shooters capped at 20,
call Ryan at 208-869-9689 or Michelle at 208-869-
1878 to reserve your shoot time. You need at
least 4 arrows to shoot this league.
Open Shooting
The range is available for open shooting unless an
organized league or shoot is being conducted.
Shooters who are not members of the same
household should skip at least one lane between
shooters. Compliance with government health
guidelines is required – stay away if feeling ill,
practice social distancing, wear a mask if social
distancing is not possible, practice good hygiene.
Observers/Non-Shooters
Spectators are discouraged from coming to the
range. Attendance by non-participants remains
subject to the requirements specified in the Stay
Healthy Order: Gatherings of more than 10
people, both public and private, are
prohibited. People participating in gatherings of
10 or fewer people, while permitted, must adhere
to the Physical Distancing and Sanitation
Requirements in Section 3 of the order. This
applies to non-participants!
