Next General Meeting
Our next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday,
April 7th at 7pm in the common area at the
indoor range. Everyone is welcome to attend as
long as we don’t have more than 50 people.
Please social distance and wear face coverings if
you can’t socially distance.
March Meeting Summary
Our March general membership meeting was
held Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at 7pm at the
indoor range.
Virgil shared the window coverings proposals
with the membership and solicited comments.
The art work will cover all the glass – windows
and doors on the front of the building. It was
asked who was paying for it. We assume (and it
has been confirmed) that Fish and Game is
paying for it.
The roof is leaking through the stove vent and
into the men’s bathroom. We will bring this up
at the next building committee meeting.
We were reminded that the footing on the
windows on our side is broken. We will need to
bring that to Fish and Game’s attention before
they install the window coverings.
The meeting with Fish and Game on February
10th lasted about 2 hours. Virgil and Mike
addressed many issues with the new contract and
Fish and Game considered and addressed them
all. Our first Range Safety Operations
Procedures (RSOP)/Building Committee
Meeting will be next week.
We discussed the public range access and assured
the members that there will be no change to
them. We will be discussing the fees and where
they will go during the Building Committee
Meeting. To start with, public hours will be the
same as the hours of Shooter’s Bench: Tuesday
– Friday 10am – 6pm and Saturday 10am – 5pm.
Cardboard is not cheap. User fees will go to help
pay for the cardboard.
If was suggested that we have a poster in the
range that describes memberships and the
benefits of becoming a member.

Nampa Bow Chiefs events will be given priority.
Kim explained the shared electronic calendar that
will be used to list our events. We need to make
sure that we get our stuff on the calendar as soon
as possible.
We discussed Shooter’s Bench and the
relationship of this business with the Nampa
Public Indoor Range. Kim read Article 4,
paragraph 9 of the new contract.
We have a committee that is looking into options
for the future Nampa Bow Chiefs indoor range.
The committee is headed up by Steve
Stephenson. Contact Steve if you would like to
be involved.
The cost of utilities was brought up. We will
address the sharing of those expenses for the
common area at next week’s meeting.
Virgil asked if anyone had any comments on the
window covering artwork that was passed
around. Virgil pointed out that the elk appeared
to be standing in a lake and that it looked a little
odd. No other comments were made.
Kim created a draft RSOP (Range Safety
Operations Procedure) for archery with much of
it pulled from the USA Archery Level 1 course
book.
The little red building by the outdoor range is
Nampa Bow Chief’s storage shed.
Hunter’s Ed will be using our range for field
days. They will reserve lanes in our range for
their range day on the electronic calendar.
Tripod is a go. The contract has been signed.
There will be three ranges (60 targets). Idaho
State Bowhunters (ISB) will set up and run the
kid’s range. In exchange, ISB will be looking for
help from our members at the Jamboree.
We need to start establishing our shoot dates in
July for the next year in order to avoid conflicts
with other shoots.
Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation has asked us
for a donation. It was agreed that we would
donate $100 for a print to be auctioned off at
their annual banquet.
We will be rekeying the door knob to the
closet/storage room off of the range to the
member key.
The bow press will be only for use by Bow Chief
members. A sign will be posted that it is for
authorized use only. The bow press is for
member use only and use at your own risk.
Dates have been established for the Nampa Rec
Center Archery Classes for this summer in June,
July and August. The new instructor will be
Robert Zechmann.
Cathy Dowell would like to get some new steel
targets for the Tripod Shoot and wanted some
guidance on how to get new burlap practice
targets or get the ones we have prepared.
Discussed the NNU summer leagues that we
used to have. The American League, at 40, 50
and 60 yards is normally held on a grassy field.
Pete mentioned sod farms. Russ said that he
would check with John Burkey from the Nampa
City Rec Department to see if they have a
location for us. (Russ checked and they do not
have a location for us.)
Red Dot League will be starting March 15 th and
16th and will be $3 for members and $4 for
nonmembers.
We had a drawing for a $25 gift card to Texas
Roadhouse that was won by Kim Boyack.

Storage Closet
You may notice that the storage closet is now
locked. This is the room that has some cleaning
supplies and tools. Don’t worry, your key will get
you into this room. If you unlock this door, be
sure to lock it before you leave. This is in
preparation for public shooting hours.
News Flash: Your Mother Does Not
Work at the Range!
This may come as a surprise to some of you but
your mom does not work at the Nampa Bow
Chiefs range! That means that you are required to
clean up after yourselves. There are mops and

brooms in the storage closet (your member key
fits the lock) and there are paper towels and water
in the bathrooms too. So please, keep our range
looking nice and don’t expect someone else to
clean up your messes. Thank you!
NFAA 5 Spot State and Sectional
Championship
The 2021 NFAA 5 Spot Idaho State and
Sectionals Championship was held at the Nampa
Bow Chiefs Indoor Range on March 6th and 7th.
There were 53 competitors. The top score for the
shoot was for Brandon Higley with a 600 118X
(out of a possible 600 120X). Nampa Bow Chiefs
members made a great showing. Placing in the
competition were:

Vegas Virtual Shoot
We had 9 shooters participate in the Vegas Virtual
Shoot on April 7th. This group of diehards shot
all three rounds in one day (90 scoring arrows). A
double scoring system was used with both paper
and electronic scorecards. In addition to
submitting their electronic scores through a
smartphone app, each shooter had to email in
pictures of their paper scorecard and their targets.
Good luck to everyone who participated.
Red Dot League
What is Red Dot League? Red Dot League is a
practice session designed for those who are
preparing for the Western Classic Trail Shoot
(The Redding 3-D Shoot) and anyone that wants
to practice adjusting their sites (sliders and pins)

for a variety of closer yardages. You will need 4
arrows to participate. There is a charge of $3 for
members and $4 for non-members. Yardages
range from 2 – 28 yards. It is a 2-target
progression. For example: You will shoot 2
arrows from 26 yards at the large dot and then 2
arrows from 17 yards at the medium dots. You
will leave your bow at 14 yards and proceed to
score those 4 arrows. This is just a practice league
– no prizes or competition. Come join us and get
tuned up for 3-D season.
Open Shooting
The range is available for open shooting unless an
organized league or shoot is being conducted.
Shooters who are not members of the same
household are encouraged to skip at least one lane
between shooters. Compliance with Idaho Stage
3 Stay Healthy Guidelines are encouraged – stay
away if feeling ill, practice social distancing, wear a
face covering if social distancing is not possible,
practice good hygiene.
Observers/Non-Shooters
Shooters at the range are given priority when it
comes to capacity. Non-participants are
encouraged to comply with the Idaho Stage 3 Stay
Healthy Guidelines. Gatherings should be limited
to no more than 50 people. People participating
in gatherings of 50 or fewer people, should adhere
to the Physical Distancing and Sanitation
Requirement.
