GROUP PROJECT (20%)

(WEEK 4 – WEEK 13)
Instruction:

1. Form a group of 4 to 5 students

2. Select ONE (1) of the following topics for your project:

a. Ventilation system
b. Electrical distribution system
c. Water supply and discharge system
d. Fire protection system

3. You are required to explore in detail the application of the selected system in a building.
Guide:
• Find a detailed drawing of the selected system in a building
(online/company/building’s technical team)
• Identify all components in the system

4. Analyze and explain the working principles of your selected system. The explanation will be
based on the following items:
• Components of the system
• Functionality of each component
• The working flow of the system
• Re-draw the schematic drawing of the system for one level of the building.

5. With the extended reading of your selected system, proposed a brief design (drawing) of the
M&E system (based on your selection) for an office building with the criteria as follows:
• 5 stories building (any shape or design)
• Floor area per floor 30 x 25 m
• Minimum room each floor = 6 rooms
• Locate the control or service room at any suitable location
• Locate the main component at the necessary location

 • Assume any specification for the components
• Produce brief schematic drawings of the implemented system in the selected building
by using any drawing aid such as AutoCAD, Google Sketchup, etc

6. Submit a report in PDF format. The report must be type-written in English and should contain
the following sections:
a. Introduction
b. Selected M&E system
c. Case study system and components
d. Working principle of the system
e. Propose design of M&E system
f. References

7. At the end of your report, attach minutes of your meetings and list down contributions by each
member.

8. Produce a video presentation for your project. The video:

a. should be not more than 10 minutes long.

b. must be in English.
c. must involve all members.
d. should be creative and entertaining.
e. provide the video link in Author system

Note: You are reminded to avoid copying or duplicating your friends work and caught copying
will be resulted to penalise you project.

REPORT FORMAT:

1. Case study review report in A4 size (maximum 25 pages)

2. Must be written in English using MS Word format.
3. Use Times New Roman, Font Size 12 and 1.5 line spacing. The left and right margin should
be 2.5 cm, while the top and bottom margin must be 3cm.

PROJECT ASSESSMENT:

1. Cognitive skills :5 marks

2. Psychomotor skills :7.5 marks
3. Affective skills :7.5 marks
