Artist Introduction

Richa Kushwaha belongs to Bhopal. She has been passionate about painting since childhood. She has
done her Post- Graduation in Fine Arts. Various forms of arts have been pursued by her however, Folk
Art interests her the most.

Art description

Aipan is one of the traditional forms of Rangoli of Kumaon, and is practiced in the state of Uttarakhand.
It is a decorative art form used extensively to decorate floors and walls at the places of worship and
entrances of homes.

This art is associated with a great degree of social, cultural as well as religious significance.

Aipan designs are mainly drawn at places of worship, main entrance to a home and the front courtyard
of a home.

Lakshmi Padchinha is one of the famous type of Aipan . It comprises of the footprints of Goddess
Lakshmi, and is drawn on the occasion of Diwali, right from main entrance of a home to the place of
worship or the puja room.
