Instructions: complete the following questions

Question 1

Question 1 answers

(a). Figure one was completed in the diagram.

(b). Virtual images ( formed in a mirror) are always upright and real images (formed by an eye) are
always inverted.

(c). Focal length is the distance from a lens or mirror to the focal point f. This is the distance from a
lens or mirror at which parallel light rays will meet. Two factors that determines focal length are if an
object is placed further from the lens than the focal point f, then a real image will be formed and if
the object is placed closer to the lens than the focal point f, then a virtual image will be formed.

Question 2

Question 2 (a) answers

(a) (i) above – The appearance of the object would be blue

(a) (ii) below – The appearance of the object would be red.
Question 2) b) answers

Question 3

Question 3 answer

 Object height = L * m
 Object height = 60 mm * 3
 Object height = 180

Question 4
Question 4 answer
 (a) The image in the diagram is a convex lens, reason being convex lenses are thicker in the
center.
(b) The more curved the lens, the shorter the focal length.

(d)
 The image is inverted
 The distance is short
 The sizes of the image and object are equal
