Universe:Three ways the universe could end

By Venus Keus

 the Big Bang theory predicts that all matter, time, and space began in an
incredibly tiny, compact state about 14 billion years ago.
 Cosmologists have three possible answers for this question : the Big Freeze, the
Big Rip and the Big Crunch.
1. The Big Freeze:  what happens if the force pulling the objects apart is just
strong enough to stretch the rubber band until it loses its elasticity/  The
universe would become darker and colder, approaching a frozen state also
known as the Big Chill, or the Heat Death of the Universe.
2. The Big Rip: the repulsive force is so strong that it stretches the rubber band
past its elastic limit, and actually tears it/  the matter that makes up stars
breaks into tiny pieces, even atoms and subatomic particles will be destroyed.
3. The Big Crunch:  the force of gravity brings the universe’s expansion to a halt
— and then reverses it/ The result would be an incredibly dense, hot, compact
universe — a lot like the state that preceded the Big Bang.

Why was India split into two

22. Violence:
countries?
By Haimanti Roy

 August 1947 : India gained independence after 200 years of British rule=> one of
the largest and bloodiest forced migrations in history=> one million people lost
their lives.
 Before British colonization: the Indian subcontinent was a patchwork of regional
kingdoms known as princely states populated by Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs,
Jains, Buddhists, Christians, Parsis, and Jews.
 The 20th century began with decades of anti-colonial movements, where Indians
fought for independence from Britain.
 After riots in 1946 and 1947 in June the British viceroy announced that
India would gain independence by August, and be partitioned into Hindu India and
Muslim Pakistan— but gave little explanation of how exactly this would happen.

 The new map wasn’t revealed until August 17th, 1947— two days after
independence.
 In a period of two years, millions of Hindus and Sikhs living in Pakistan left for
India, while Muslims living in India fled villages where their families had lived for
centuries.
  In 1971, East Pakistan seceded and became the new country of Bangladesh.

23. Weather: The science of snowflakes

By Maruša Brada

 Snowflakes: - look symmetrical

- have six sides
- are simply frozen water
- form when water vapor turns straight into ice
 When water freezes, the hydrogen bonding occurs on repeat, forming a
hexagonal structure due to the angle between hydrogens and oxygen within each
molecule.=>the seed of a snowflake
  A snowflake's developing shape depends on atmospheric conditions, like
humidity and temperature.
  it's not really snow skiing(as skis move, they rub the surface of the snow
and warm it up, creating a thin layer of water)

24. Youth:What would happen if you didn’t sleep?

By Claudia Aguirre
 Adults need seven to eight hours of sleep a night, and adolescents need
about ten
  The rise in sleep-inducing chemicals, like adenosine and melatonin, send
us into a light doze that grows deeper, making our breathing and heart rate
slow down and our muscles relax
 Staying awake can affect:  learning, memory, mood, reaction time,
inflammation, hallucinations and high blood pressure
