The questions below will help you plan the delegation conversation step-by-step. Reflect on the
question and discuss with your group on how you would delegate in the situation.

Analysis  What specifically needs to be done, delivered, or achieved?


 By when?
 What skills and experiences are required?
 Who is best suited for this task/responsibility?
 What training or other support is needed?
 Who else will be involved?
 What will my role be?
 What are the risks and benefits?
Assignment  How can the assignment be expressed using the SMART
format? (SMART – Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant
and Time-bound)
 What other information is relevant?
Acceptance  How will I know that the employee fully understands the
assignment?
 What if the employee does not accept the task/responsibility?
Accountability  How will I hold the employee accountable?
 What support will I provide?
 How will I know if the employee is off track, and what will I do
if that happens?
Assessment  How and when will I provide feedback?
 What will I do if the employee does not meet expectations or is
not successful?
 How will I recognize and reward the employee if/when
successful?
