NEED FOR THE STUDY
• Kaphaj kaas is very prevalent in this region.
• Drug is found commonly in Himalayan
region.
• Vanafsha is used in folklore medicine for
the disease.
• Very less work has been done on particular
species.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
• To carry out pharmacognostical study on
different species of Vanafsha found in mid hill
zone of Distt. Kangra (H.P.) for its
identification.
• To carry out analytical study on Viola pilosa
Blume syn. Viola serpens Wall. ex Ging.
• To prepare standard quality medicine as
per GMP & classical Ayurvedic texts.
• To clinically evaluate the effect of
Vanafsha (Viola pilosa Blume syn. Viola
serpens Wall. ex Ging.) on Kaphaj kaas.

PLAN OF STUDY
• Conceptual study:
➢A detailed review of different species of
Vanafsha from Ayurvedic literature, journals
and recent research works.
➢Ayurvedic and modern literature will be
reviewed thoroughly to know Kaas in detail.
• Pharmacognostical study:
➢Detailed macroscopic and microscopic
study of available species will be done.

• Clinical study:
➢The clinical study will be done to evaluate
the clinical efficacy of Viola pilosa Blume in
the patients of Kaphaj Kaas.
Inclusion criteria:
• Patients willing for trial.
• Age - 18-70 years
• Sex - Either sex
• Diagnosis - on the basis of following
symptoms (as per classical texts):
➢ Shweta shleshma pravartan (White phlegm)
Uroruk (Chest pain)
Shiroruja (Headache)
Peenas (Watery nasal discharge)
Arochak (Loss of appetite)
Gourav (Feeling of heaviness)
Exclusion Criteria:
• Patients not willing for trial.
• Known case of Pulmonary tuberculosis.
• Known case of any major chest pathology.
INVESTIGATIONS
•Routine hematological investigations
•Chest X-Ray P.A. view
•Sputum for A.F.B.
CRITERIA OF ASSESSMENT
The improvement will be assessed on the
basis of relief in the sign and symptoms:
Shweta shleshma Grading done 0-3
pravartan (White phlegm)
Uroruk (Chest pain) Grading done 0-3
Shiroruja (Headache) Grading done 0-3
Peenas (Watery nasal Grading done 0-3
discharge)
Arochak (Loss of appetite) Grading done 0-3
Gourav (Feeling of Grading done 0-3
heaviness)
Study will be conducted on 30
patients.

5 gm of raw drug in decoction form


(twice daily).

Duration of trial- 7days

Follow up after 3 days during treatment


and one after completion of trial
