PVTsim Installation Guide

Installation
Administrator rights are needed to perform a successful installation. Start the installation by running set-
up.exe. Once the setup is launched follow the instructions on the screen.

Minimum requirements: Pentium PC with 256 Mb RAM and 120 Mb free harddisk space. SVGA display
adapter, 1024 x 768 pixels. Windows 2000 or XP, Server 2003, Server 2008, Vista or 7, 32 or 64 bits.

License system
PVTsim can be used with the following license systems

 Sentinel hardware key (Single User)

 HASP hardware key (Server key)
 FLEXlm

The license system can be selected the first time PVTsim starts up. Later on the license system can be
changed using the Calsep License Manager installed with PVTsim.

Sentinel hardware key (Single User)

Place the hardware key in the printer or USB port. A Sentinel driver (version 7.4 or higher) must be in-
stalled. To install the driver run Sentinel+Protection+Installer+7.4.0+(Drivers+Only).exe in the Sentinel
folder. If an older version of the Sentinel driver is already present, upgrade it to the latest version.

HASP hardware key (Server key)

Server
Place the hardware key in the USB port of a PC on the local area network. PVTsim does not have to be
installed on this PC, but a network adapter must be present and network protocols, etc. must be installed.
Access to an active network must exist.

The HASP folder contains driver and server for the HASP key. HASPmessages.txt contains an explanation
of possible error messages from the HASP system. readme.html contains a list of supported Windows oper-
ating systems and known issues and challenges with the HASP server when used with Windows Vista,
Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008.

To install driver and server on Windows 7 refer specifically to 135-Install_LM_Under_Windows_7.pdf.

Items 1 and 2 in 135-Install_LM_Under_Windows_7.pdf are not required as the lmsetup.exe is located on
the installation image for PVTsim.

Otherwise to install driver and server, log on as Administrator and run lmsetup.exe. The server may be in-
stalled as Application or as Service. If installed as Service the server will start automatically upon reboot.
Otherwise the server must be started manually by running nhsrvw32.exe.

When the server is up and running, a HASP icon is displayed in the lower right corner of the screen. When
the driver is properly installed the light in the diode on a HASP USB key is on.

1
If the haspvb32.dll on the client machine is newer than the HASP server, error 155 will occur on the client
machine when it requests a license.

Client
The search route for the server can be controlled using the file nethasp.ini on the client PC’s. Nethasp.ini
must be located in Windows\System32 on 32bit Windows operating systems and in Windows\SysWOW64
on 64bit Windows operating systems. The fastest search is obtained with the following settings

 NH_TCPIP = Enabled
 NH_TCPIP_METHOD=TCP
 NH_SERVER_ADDR= <server ip address>

FLEXlm
MAC address needed to issue license file
The MAC-address of your FLEXlm license server is needed to have a FLEXlm license file for PVTsim
issued. The license server can be any PC on the network running a Windows OS. If you have acquired your
PVTsim license through Calsep, please mail MAC-address to Peter L. Christensen (plc@calsep.com) and a
license file will be returned.

Node locked license file (single user)

Copy the license file to C:\Program Files\Calsep\License Manager\FLEXlm. Start up the Calsep License
Manager and choose FLEXlm as license type. Click on Advanced. Browse for the license file and click OK.

External license server

On the client start up the Calsep License Manager and choose FLEXlm as license type. Click on Advanced.
Enter @name of license server and click OK. Optionally enter a port number in front of @name of license
server. This port number must equal the port number used when setting up the license server.

On the license server start lmtools.exe and input paths to lmgrd and license file as explained in the section
License server on client. Check Use Services and check Start Server at Power Up. Click on Save Service. I
the license server is running Windows 2008 or Windows 7, the firewall protection must be dealt with in
order to let the clients request for a license through.
