Simple Interest

1. Mr. Narayan invested an amount of Rs. 14,800 divided in two different schemes
A and B at the simple interest rate of 15% p.a. and 10% p.a. respectively. If the
total amount of simple interest earned in 2 years be Rs. 3508, what was the
amount invested in Scheme B?

a. Rs. 9400
b. Rs. 9320
c. Rs. 5480
d. Rs. 5428
ANS: b. Rs. 9320
Solution:
Let the sum invested in scheme B be Rs. X and that in scheme A be Rs. (14800-
x).
Then, (((14800-x) * 15 * 2) / 100) + ((x * 10 * 2) / 100) = 3508
Therefore, 444000 – 30x + 20x = 350800
Hence, x = Rs. 9320

2. Priya took a loan of Rs. 1600 with simple interest for as many years as the rate
of interest. If she paid Rs. 784 as interest at the end of the loan period, what
was the rate of interest?

a. 6
b. 4.5
c. 7
d. None of these
ANS: c. 7
Solution:
Let rate = R% and time = R years
Then, ((1600 * R * R) / 100) = 784
Therefore, R^2 = 49
Hence, R = 7
3. A lent Rs. 6000 to B for 2 years and Rs. 4000 to C for 4 years on simple interest
at the same rate of interest and received Rs. 2400 in all from both of them as
interest. The rate of interest per annum is?

a. 7%
b. 8.57%
c. 10%
d. 7.25%
ANS: b. 8.57%
Solution:
Let the rate be R% per annum.
Then, ((6000 * R * 2) / 100) + ((4000 * R * 4) / 100) = 2400
Therefore, 120R + 160 R = 2400
Hence, R= 60/7 = 8.57

4. A sum of Rs. 850 is lent in the beginning of a year at a certain rate of interest.
After 8 months, a sum of Rs. 462.50 more is lent but at the rate twice the former.

was the original rate of interest?

a. 3.46%
b. 3.6%
c. 3.84%
d. 4.5%
ANS: c. 3.84%
Solution:
Let the original rate be R%. Then, new rate = (2R)%
Here, original rate is for 1 year; the new rate is for only 4 months i.e. 1/3 year.
Therefore, ((850* R * 1) / 100) + ((462.50 * 2R * 1) / (3 *100)) = 44.50
Which implies, 2550R + 925R = 13350
Hence, R = 13350 / 3475 = 3.84%

income of Q and R is Rs. 6425 and the average monthly income of P and R is
Rs. 5400. The monthly income of P is:

a. 4000
b. 4050
c. 5000
d. 5050
ANS: b. 4050
Solution:
Let P, Q and R represent their respective monthly incomes. Then, we have:
P + Q = (5075 x 2) = 10150 .... (i)
Q + R = (6425 x 2) = 12850 .... (ii)
P + R = (5400 x 2) = 10800 .... (iii)
Adding (i), (ii) and (iii), we get: 2(P + Q + R) = 33800 or P + Q + R = 16900
.... (iv)
Subtracting (ii) from (iv), we get P = 4050.
P's monthly income = Rs. 4050.

Coding Question
You will be given a string containing digits from 2 - 9. You need to return all possible
letter combinations that number could represent.
A mapping of digit to letters (just like on the telephone buttons) is given below:

Solution:
#include <bits/stdc++.h>
using namespace std;

vector<string> letterCombinationsUtil(const int number[],int n,const string table[])

{

vector<string> list;

queue<string> q;
q.push("");

while (!q.empty()) {
string s = q.front();
q.pop();

// If complete word is generated

// push it in the list
if (s.length() == n)
list.push_back(s);
else

// Try all possible letters for current digit

// in number[]
for (auto letter : table[number[s.length()]])
q.push(s + letter);
}

// Return the generated list

return list;
}

// Function that creates the mapping and

// calls letterCombinationsUtil
void letterCombinations(const int number[], int n)
{

// table[i] stores all characters that

// corresponds to ith digit in phone
string table[10]
= { "0", "1", "abc", "def", "ghi",
"jkl", "mno", "pqrs", "tuv", "wxyz" };

vector<string> list
= letterCombinationsUtil(number, n, table);

// Print the contents of the vector

for (auto word : list)
cout << word << " ";

return;
}

// Driver code
int main()
{

int n;

scanf("%d",&n);

int array[n];
for(int i=0;i<n;i++)
scanf("%d",&array[i]);

// Function call
letterCombinations(array, n);

return 0;
}
