AFTER WATCHING, REFLECT ON THE FOLLOWING:

WHAT IS YOUR INSIGHT IN THE LINE, "NO WOMAN SHOULD DIE GIVING LIFE?"

After watching the four (4) videos, the

statement, “No woman should die giving life”
made a huge influence on me as an individual
who advocates the same perspective - which is to
help in improving maternal health as a future
medical professional, especially in various areas
where extreme poverty and teenage pregnancy
are very evident and prevalent. I can affirm that
the statement is very powerful and certain
because it encourages/causes a complete or
dramatic change in ending the increasing
maternal mortality rate especially, in our country
(Philippines), thus, advocating the Millennium
Development Goal 5. Moreover, I suppose that
mothers or women cannot thrive unless they
survive one of the greatest dangers of their life -
childbirth. So, we need solutions, projects, and
campaigns that allow the society to realize that
there has been an occurrence of the silent and neglected epidemic due to maternal mortality; we should never settle in this
circumstance which we intend to acknowledge the problem and eventually stop there, hence, failing ourselves to find better
solutions to give due care and attention to the clients. Moreover, fortunately, various sectors, especially the Department of Health,
have done something to address this problem, but it is not enough to completely eradicate the problem because we lack a trait
called cooperation and the desire to go hand in hand. I just want to end my journal with a sharing concerning a video I have seen
on TikTok by @abbieherbert (https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSeSLBAV1/). She is a 25-year-old mother, and her daughter is 6-month-old.
In her latest video, she utilized a song called “I AM WOMAN” by Emmy Meli in which the lyrics and the pictures Abbie Herbert
presented signify how government and health care workers should focus on safe motherhood projects implementations or more
integrated approaches and how valuable a mother’s right to life - woman, fearless, creative, and divine.

If you are to be an advocate for life, how do you feel about the rising maternal health problems? What strategies do you have
in mind to address this issue? Since I have always been an advocate for life, the rising maternal health problems are worrying for me, and
I am saddened by the fact that we cannot save some of the mothers/women from preventable causes of death related to pregnancy and during
childbirth because of the various reasons that were also emphasized in the videos such as financial problems and lack of transportation. With
that, I was able to come up with an effective strategy or an advocacy title to discuss the issue. It is called “I AM: EDUCATION, SKILLED CARE,
FAMILY PLANNING” - I am ready to get educated and empowered, I am hoping to receive skilled care, and I am ready to protect myself from
any health risks that may occur before, during or after childbirth. With this strategy, complications or delays and maternal deaths could be
prevented and empower women to obtain better health care, education, and skilled hospital care services rather than home-based childbirth.
