Photosynthesis Answers
1. The overall equation for photosynthesis is as follows

6CO2 + 6H2O C6H1206+6O2

2. The energy for photosynthesis comes from the light.

3. Chlorophyll is the main pigment which absorbs and reflects certain wavelength of
light and reflects others.
4. We see light that bounces off of objects (reflected light). Chlorophyll is the best at
trapping and absorbing the red-orange wavelengths of light and the blue, indigo,
and violet wavelengths of light. It is not good at absorbing the green
wavelengths. The green light is reflected, so it is the part we see. Therefore,
chlorophyll looks green to us.
5. Organelle of a plant cell does photosynthesis take place in chloroplast.
6. The stages of photosynthesis:
A. Light reactions (light independent) which take place in the thylakoid
membrane
B. Dark reactions (light independent) which take place in the stoma fluid also
called Calvin Cycle.
7. The part of the chloroplast does stage occur are:
A. A light reactions take place in the thylakoids
B. The Calvin Cycle takes place in the stroma
8. The water molecules in the light reactions is water molecules (H2O) are split to
give electrons, H+ ions, and oxygen gas (O2)
9. The photosynthesis waste product is formed in the light reactions is oxygen gas
(O2)
10. The two products of the light reactions are used in Calvin cycle are:
A. NADPH
B. ATP
11. The carbon dioxide molecules in the Calvin Cycle, carbon dioxide molecule
(CO2) are combined with the electrons and H’s from NADPH to form glucose
(CH1206)
12. The cells store the sugar as starch and during the night when there is no sunlight
for photosynthesis the plants takes the starch and uses it as energy
