Exercise 12

1. What is the significance of Work to human existence?


 Work is man’s normal way of self-preservation. Since humanity strives for
survival, work made way for people to provide themselves and their family of the
basic needs. People also work so they can acquire new skills, learn new things and
meet other people. They work to contribute to the community.

2. Briefly explain in your own words the Moral Duties in Work and Profession.
 These are the norms inside the workplace about the right and wrong. The duty to
work is the first moral duty in work and profession, as stated above, work is of
great essence to the humanity. In order for a man can satisfy his sustenance he
must acquire what is necessary for his livelihood by his labor. It is also
emphasized in the Christian Doctrine of work that “every man’s duty to work
faithfully” because every man is called to serve his fellowmen and to join with
God in the unfolding of his creation, to the extent that he is competent. The
second is the duty to conscientious preparation for one’s profession, the
importance and purpose of work also necessitates that a person chooses his job
properly and diligently prepares for it. Before choosing his job, one should assess
his skills and capabilities because careers require an efficient and effective
employee and one should choose only that profession where he believes that he
can serve God, himself and his fellowmen best. Lastly, the duties in the practice
of the profession, every worker or professional is obligated to provide the
services he committed to provide and for which he is compensated in a
conscientious manner.
3. How do you understand “work ethics”?
 Work ethics are the set of moral principles or values that an employee abides by
and uses in their job performance. It addresses the behavior and attitude of the
employee towards their work, career, workmates and the workplace. It is also of
value to the productivity and the quality of output that an employee would churn
in to their supervisors. It is vital because they hold everyone in an organization
accountable for their actions. Maintaining this provides employees with a sense of
security by establishing boundaries. It also allows executives to make decisions
that benefit the company as a whole while simultaneously satisfying the demands
of customers and employees.

4. Briefly explain in your own word the six key factors of effective work ethics.
 Integrity is the state of being honest and having strong moral principles. It also
means doing the right things, at all times even without presence of anyone around
you. A person with integrity live in accordance to his deepest values and he
always keep his words.
 Emphasis on quality of work. An employee must do his job designated to him and aims
for better results of such. He cares about the quality of the work he produce and not
merely doing what is needed. If an employee shows dedication and commitment to
coming up with very good results in his work, then his work ethics will definitely
shine.
 Professionalism is defined by who you are(inner character), what you do(behaviour), and
how you perceive others. For a person to be professional, he need to have a strong work
ethics. Professionalism is commonly understood as an individuals adherence to set of

standards, code of conduct or collection of qualities that characterize accepted practice


within the particular area of activity.
 Discipline - Discipline is the quality of being able to behave and work is controlled way
which involves obeying particular rules or standards. It is also crucial at
workplace as it ensures employees behave in a decent way and also maintain the
decorum of the workplace. Discipline involves focus, dedication and determination on
their part to do what they should.
 Sense of Responsibility - Responsibility is important in the workplace because it shows
your professionalism, can advance your career, helps build professional
bonds with co- workers, and shows company leadership that you are a valuable
employer. The moment you became part of the organization and assigned tasks and
duties, you have a responsibility that you must fulfill. If you have a strong work ethic,
you will be concerned with ensuring that you are able to fulfill your duties and
responsibilities and also you will feel inclined to do your best if you want to get the
best results.
 Sense of Teamwork - Teamwork at the workplace has been demonstrated to increase
efficiency, improve communication, expedite idea generation, distribute workload, and
establish a culture in which each employee feels a sense of belonging and
empowerment. Teamwork creates a system to ensure that deadlines are met and that
there’s high quality work. Work ethic is also continuously shaped by relationships,
specifically on how you are able to handle them in achieving goals, whether shared or
individual.
5. As a future worker or employee, how will you demonstrate a strong work ethics to your
employer? Explain briefly.
 As an employee, I will adhere to the company’s policies and maintain proper
decorum all the time, whether the supervisors are present or not. I would also be
present in the working days and would only take absences if my health or other
equally important matters come along as I will put the company first than my
personal interests. I would ensure that the work I churn in are of quality and of
course would strictly follow the set deadlines for every work load. Lastly, in order
for the workplace to be harmonious and free from violence, I would start the
respect in myself and eventually to everyone in the organization.
