SOME EXAMPLES OF UNEHTICHAL
BEHAVIOR IN THE WORKPLACE
1. Misusing company time
2. Personal use of company resources
3. Lying to hide mistakes
4. Gossiping or Badmouthing colleagues
5. Offensive communications
6. Passing the buck (when you don’t get your work
done)
7. Taking credit for other colleagues’ work
8. Slacking off when no one is watching
9. Receiving bribes 4
Example:
In a month we have (40x4) 160 working hours that we are
paid for. If everyday we spend an hour browsing our social
media, that is 5 hours in a week. In a month that is 20 hours
in total. Plus, we spend 2 hours of our working hours every
week to run our personal errands, in a month that is 8
hours. In total, we are spending 28 hours personal time in a
month.
So, 160 working hours – 28 hours personal time = 132 hours
only we spend doing our job.
Imagine the salary we received every month, then we
robbed 28 hours of it for our personal use, how money do
you think are wasted for that 28 hours? 5

HOW TO DEVELOP A STRONG WORK ETHIC
•Walk the Talk. Remember! You attract people. Set as a
good example. Understand that ethics is displayed in
everything you do… and that everything you do counts. The
best way to teach ethics is to model it.
•Construct Good Habits. A strong work ethic is based on
habits.
•Cultivate Self-Discipline. Anything worthwhile achieving
takes discipline. Stay focus on the long-term goal and be not
side-tracked by short-term gratification. Strive for excellence in
your task.
•Master the 3 "Rs“. Treat people and company resources
with respect. Be responsible for providing quality services,
and commitments. Get the right results the right way.  23
HOW TO RESPONSE WHEN FACING ETHICAL
DILEMMA
•When in doubt…use an Ethical Action Test - Is it
legal? Does it comply with our rules, guidelines, and
organizational values? Will I be comfortable and guilt
free if I do it?
•Learn To Say No with Tact - When faced with a
situation or directive you believe is wrong, don't go
along to get along. State your objection and propose
an alternative action.
•Manage Conflicting Rights or Ethical
Dilemmas - Use the ethical action test to decide 24
