Answer the following questions:

1. Dispersion is the separation of white light into its component colors by a prism.

2. The combination of all the colors in the spectrum is white light.

3. White objects tend to reflect light while black objects tend to absorb light.

4. When the sun is shining on a hot summer's day, a combination of bright light and radiant

heat is emitted. This sunlight consists of a mixture of wavelengths that include infrared,

visible, and ultraviolet light. Light-colored clothing reflects most of the visible

wavelengths which, in turn, absorbs less heat.

5. IR and UV radiation are a small part of the electromagnetic spectrum. The visible light

has a wavelength of 380 nm to 760 nm. The area alongside a longer wavelength is the IR

spectrum. The area next to the visible light, with a shorter wavelength, is the UV

spectrum.

6. Rainbows are formed by the dispersion and internal reflection of the white light from the

sun by water droplets in the atmosphere.

7. The ocean is blue because water absorbs colors in the red part of the light spectrum. Like

a filter, this leaves behind colors in the blue part of the light spectrum for us to see.

8. Of course, if there is no light, everything is black.

9. The three primary colors of light are red, blue, and green.

10. If you mix red, green, and blue light, you get white light.

11. Glass prism produces spectra of light through the process called refraction.
