Mid Term Paper Assignment

Haseeb Ur Rehman 2015 – EE – 306 Section A

Q1. A pair of dice is rolled on every play and the player wins at once if the
total for the first throw is 6 or 10, loses at once if 2,3, or 12 are rolled. Any
other throw is called a "carry-over." If the first throw is a carry-over, then
the player throws the dice repeatedly until he wins by throwing the same
carry-over again, or loses by throwing 6. What is the probability of winning
the game? The two dice are slightly loaded in such a manner so that the
faces 1, 2 and 3 appear with unbiased probability plus ε and faces 4, 5 and 6

appear with unbiased probability plus ε for each dice. Calculate for ε =¿0.1

Q2a. We have four boxes. Box 1 contains 2500 components of which 5%

are defective. Box 2 contains 600 components of which 40% are defective.
Boxes 3 and 4 contain 800 each with 10% defective. We select at random
one of the boxes and we remove at random a single component. (a) What is
the probability that the selected component is defective?

Q2b. A box contains red and blue balls. When two balls are drawn without
replacement, suppose the probability that both are red is 1/5. (a) Find the
smallest number of balls in the box. (b) How small can the total number of
balls be if black balls are even in number?

c) Cartesian Product Space
d) Prove the Bernoulli Theorem for Repeated Trials
e) Stock market follows a randomly phenomenon. After entering into the
market, at what time of the day one can get out with success?

A collection of subsets of a nonempty set Ω forms a field F if
(i) Ω ∈F
(ii) If A ∈ F then Α ∈ F

Ans c). Cartesian Product Space:
Given two sets S1 and S2 with elements ξ 1 and ξ 2 respectively, we form all
ordered pairs ξ 1ξ 2 where ξ 1 is any element of S1 and ξ 2 is any element of
S2. The Cartesian product of the sets S1 and S2 is a set S whose elements
are all such pairs. This set is written in the form S=S 1 × S 2.
