Year 9 assessment 1: revision checklist

The following topics will be on the upcoming assessment. Use this checklist to help you plan
your revision, remembering to use BRAIN-BOOK-BUDDY-BOSS if you are unsure about a
topic.

Topic 
Variables in investigations (independent, dependent, control)
Using data to reach a conclusion
Plotting a graph to a high standard
Determining the gradient of a graph
How to tell if two variables are directly proportional
Systematic and random errors, and their effect on measurements.
SI (standard) units of length, mass, and time
Use of standard form and significant figures
Meaning and use of SI prefixes
Definition of speed, velocity, acceleration
Distinction between scalars and vectors and examples of each
Instantaneous vs average speed
Distance-time graphs
Using the gradient of a distance time graph to find the speed, INCLUDING when
the speed is changing (by drawing a tangent)
How to determine the speed of an object experimentally, including through use
of light gates, and by direct timing.
Velocity time graphs
Using velocity time graphs to find the acceleration of an object by calculating
the gradient (constant acceleration only)
Using a velocity time graph to find the distance travelled by an object, by
calculating the area under the graph
