EDITORIAL CARTOON:
“SAVING CHILDREN FROM DRUG ABUSE”
The editorial cartoon shows 3 main elements; the round-bottom flask, an electric
stand fan, and a kid. The round-bottom flask contains all the illegal drugs, like ecstasy,
shabu, and marijuana cigarettes. It has a smoke sub-element, which represents the
addictive trap of these substances, blown away by the second element, the electric
stand fan. The electric stand fan represents two things; first, as a symbolism of a
common household, and second, as a symbol of the R.A 9165 (Comprehensive
Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) and National Drug Education Program (NDEP). The pole of
the electric fan also says “Family Education”, which stands for the important role of
families in protecting their child against drug abuse. The electric fan “blows away” the
cloud of addiction from the flask, to protect the third element, which is the troubled kid.
The troubled kid, which portrays the Filipino children, and the troubled state of the
youth today. These symbols collectively aim to deliver a single message: to protect the
Filipino children from drug abuse.
