I. INTRODUCTION
“Art is not a thing; it is a way of life”. Elbert Hubbard.
Art is life. It is engraved in our culture. The diversity of the characteristics of arts and
crafts in Southeast Asia is as diverse as the people living in each country and
acculturating other countries. Yet, similarities in arts and crafts are evident in
different cultures of southeast Asian Countries.

In this Learning Packet, you will visit these different art sites in Southeast Asia. Be
ready to be an explorer (an adventurer) and a cartographer (person who makes
maps) and an archaeologist (person who studies artifacts and culture). Have fun!

II. LEARNING COMPETENCIES


1. Analyzes elements and principles of art in the production of arts and crafts
inspired by the cultures of Southeast Asia A8EL-Ib-1
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
1. Describe the elements of art and principles of design used in the arts and crafts
of Southeast Asia countries
2. Compare the characteristics arts and crafts of the Southeast Asian countries
including that of the Philippines
3. Appreciate the unique Bicol culture by conceptualizing a Bicol version of batik.

III. LEARNING ACTIVITIES

A. Be a CARTOGRAPHER.

You’re assigned to be a Cartographer (person


that make maps). But I have a special task for
you…make an ART MAP.
1. Identify the countries of Southeast Asia.
Color their location based on the legend
found on the map.
2. Unravel the ART treasures found on the
right side of the map and place them on
the countries they belong to.
3. Name these 12 ART Treasures.

B. ARCHAEOLOGIST at WORK! An Archaeologist is a
person who studies artifacts and culture. Your job is to
examine your found items in the ART MAP. Look at the
artifacts and examine the elements of art and principles of
design evident in these artifacts.

Batik is a method of producing colored designs on textiles. It is commonly produced


in Southeast Asian countries like Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines. Create
your own batik design (on the box below) to show BICOL culture.
Use the following elements of arts and principles of design to show the unique Bicol
Culture.
