Emerita Quito
Quito wrote and published so many works. She had 33 publications,
among the 33 publications she summarizes it into one that released in
1990, entitled A Life of Philosophy: A Festschrift in Honor of Emerita S.
Quito.
The philosophy of Quito was based on the Filipino Philosophy.
According to Liwanag, Quito’s discursive fortes are: exposition of
foreign systems (66.7%); critical philosophy (18.2%); research on
Filipino values and ethics (18.2%); philosophizing using the Filipino
language (15.2%); and interpretation of Filipino worldview (15.2%).
Her discursive blind spots, on the other hand, are: the use of logical
analysis (0.0%); appropriation of folk philosophy (0.0%); revisionist
writing (0.0%); identification of the presuppositions and implications of
the Filipino worldview (0.0%); and the study on the Filipino
philosophical luminaries (0.0%)

Some of the foreign philosophers that served as the subject of
Quito’s expository publications are Lavelle, Herbert Marcuse
(18981979), Henri Bergson (1859-1941), Plato (circa 428-circa 348
BCE), Edmund Husserl (1859-1938), Albert Camus (1913-1960), and
Jean-Paul Sartre (1905-1980). Some of the foreign philosophical
systems that also served as her subjects are existentialism,
structuralism, process philosophy, and yoga.
 Some of the phenomena that served as the subject of Quito’s critical
publications are communism, Philippine education, the Filipina, the
Philippine language problem, Philippine culture and nationalism, and
the status of Filipino philosophy.

Francisca Tirona-Benitez
In 1912, she first taught at the Manila High School then in Sampaloc
Elementary School. On her second year of teaching, while serving
as the assistant dean of the girl's dormitory. She was inspired to
found a school exclusively for girls who come to Manila for higher
education. She was assigned as assistant superintendent of the
Philippine Normal School. She also became the first Filipino teacher
in the domestic science of the school.
In 1919, Her dream was realized when she was in field of teaching.
Then together with six other women, they founded the Philippine
Women's College (later renamed to Philippine Women's University).
Among the six women, she was chosen to be a President .

During the Japanese occupation period she was appointed by then
President José Laurel as head of the Women's Bureau.
In 1965, when the war ended she came back to the Philippine
Women's University where she served as its president until her
retirement.
Francisca was also an active civic leader. She helped in founding of
civic organizations including Gota de Leche where she served as
director, Associacion de Damas Filipinas and the Civic Assembly of
Women in the Philippines which later renamed National Council of
Women of the Philippines.

Lourdes Quisumbing
In 1986-1990, she was recommended by President Corazon Aquino
as a Secretary of Education.
In 1990-1998, she was Secretary-General of the UNESCO National
Commission of the Philippines.
She conducted extensive research in the Social Sciences. However,
her expertise cannot be limited into a single focus. She taught a
variety of subjects in a spectrum of disciplines in the behavioral
sciences: education, anthropology, psychology, sociology, philosophy
and history, guidance and counseling.
Dr. Lourdes R. Quisumbing is an example of a woman who has been
successful in combining a rewarding multifaceted career with her role
as a wife.

Josefa Llanes-Escoda

“Pepa”, as she was affectionately called, was a suffragette.


She is a war heroine, great civic leader and social worker.
After her death, together with José Abad Santos and Vicente Lim,
she is memorialized on the Philippines' 1,000-Peso banknote
depicting Filipinos who fought and died resisting the Japanese
occupation of the Philippines during the Second World War at FEU
Manila Campus.

Venancio Trinidad
“Education should aim to develop men and women who are as
deeply concerned in the development and uplift of our communities,
particularly in the rural areas, as in the promotion of their own
personal or individual well-being.”
Venancio achievements are the following:
In 1935, on August 14, the Social Security Act was signed into
law. The purpose was to "provide federal assistance to those
unable to work". The law established the Social Security
Administration whose primary focus was to "provide aid for the
elderly, the unemployed, and children". The Act survived many
Supreme Court challenges and the Administration continues until
today.

In 1961, on April 17th, about 1,000 CIA trained Cuban exiles
invaded Cuba with the intention of igniting a rebellion and
overthrowing Castro. They were defeated within three days.
Although the operation began under Eisenhower, Kennedy
approved it and the operation, named the Bay of Pigs for the
beach where they landed, was a humiliation for the United States.
In 1975, in January, Popular Mechanics featured the Altair 8800
on it's cover. The Altair home computer kit allowed consumers
to build and program their own personal computers. Thousands
were sold in the first month.

In 1988, on December 16th, 1988 the popular film Rain Man was
released. Featuring Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise. this film
brought attention to autistic savants and was based on the
"megasavant" Laurence Kim Peek. The film would later go to win
four Oscars including Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best
Director and Best Actor in a Leading Role.
In 1994, on May 6th, the Channel Tunnel or "Chunnel" was
officially opened. The Chunnel is a railway tunnel beneath the
English Channel that connects Great Britain to mainland France.
Original plans for such a tunnel were developed in 1802 and
approved by Napoleon Bonaparte but the British rejected the plan
fearing that Napoleon would use the railway to invade

Flora Amorante Ylagan
On September 29, 1928, The National Teachers′ College is a
private, non-sectarian, educational institution located in Quiapo,
Manila, Philippines, offering preschool, basic, and higher education
was founded and incorporated Flora Amorante Ylagan with the help
Segundo Infantado. It is in accordance with Act No. 1459 as
amended.
She contributed much to the amelioration of the quality of Philippine
education by producing competent and well-equipped teachers, who
would be at the forefront of the country’s educational arena.
Her philosophy was “We educate the student first as a man or a
woman and second as a teacher”.

Camilo Osias
Osias is a Senate President in the year that he is alive.
He advocated that the educational system must contribute towards
the achievement of the goals of education by inculcating in the minds
and hearts of the youth the value of preserving the patrimony of the
country, promoting the general welfare of the people.
School has an important role in the dynamic nationalism and
internationalism in relation to democracy in the education of the
youth.
Our education should instill love for work, spirit of tolerance, respect
for law, love for peace and practice thrift.

Dr. Osias’ suggestions to Philippine schools:

THINGS TO REMEMBER!
• Among the Pilipino Philosphers, Emerita Quito had the highest
number of Works Recorded in Google Scholar and the total of
Citations in Google Scholar.
• At age twelve, Francisca Benitez helped her mother in aiding
the wounded Katipuneros during the Philippine Revolution. She
became known as the "Little Girl of the Revolution“
• Every September 20, the nation pays homage to Josefa Llanes
Escoda, the founder of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP),
the National Federation of Women’s Clubs (NFWC), and Boys
Town, by observing her birth anniversary.
