Bulk Shopping- Bulk shopping is the purchase of large quantities of a particular product or
products, typically at a discount.

Consumer- A consumer is a person who purchases goods and services for personal use.

Credit- Credit is the ability of a customer to obtain goods or services before payment, based
on the trust that payment will be made in the future.

Co-operative shopping- Co-operative shopping is a shop owned and run by a group of people
as a co-operative.
Comparative shopping- Comparative shopping is a practice among consumers where a range
of available suppliers are compared to identify the best price for the items or services they are
willing to buy.

Green Consumer- A green consumer is someone who is aware of his or her obligation to
protect the environment by selectively purchasing green products or services.

Gross Weight- Gross weight is the weight of contents and packaging.

Impulse buying- Impulse buying is purchasing an item or items on the spur of the moment
without planning to do so. Impulse purchases refer to products consumers buy spontaneously
without advance planning.

Unit pricing- Unit pricing is the pricing of goods in a standard measure, as per ounce or per
pint. It gives the cost of a product by the weight, volume or standard numerical count as well
as by the package.
Universal Product Code (UPC) - The UPC which identifies the product and package size,
manufacturer and nature of contents. The UPC is composed of closely spaced lines, bars and
numbers

Net weight- Net weight is the weight of contents minus packaging.

Product- Product can be anything that can be offered to buyers for consumption, use or
further processing.

Service- Service is the business of making, transporting, and dispensing prepared foods.

Budget- A budget is a right way of spent money on food.

‘Use by’- Use by is the date after which a product may be unfit for consumption or is liable to
spoilage.
‘Sell by’- Sell by is a date with some advice on how soon after purchasing they should be
consumed.

Expiry date- The expiration date is the final day that the food should be consumed. After this
date the quality will quickly diminish.

Enriched- Enriched on a food package that ingredients are added to meet some specific legal
levels of these nutrients.

Fortified- Fortified means that ingredients not normally found in the food are added to meet a
particular dietary goal.

Labelling- Food labelling is used to inform consumers of the properties of pre-packaged food.
