This series, The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina uses different kinds of language

but the two prominent languages are American English and British English. The main

character, Sabrina uses American English as I can observe her accent just like her

friends differ from the other actress whom that portrays as her Aunt Hilda, which is

clearly using a British accent. Sabrina’s voice is usually high pitched and sounding more

monotonous than her Aunt Hilda which has a different tone. Hilda’s British accent could

be easily identified based on how she pronounced the words and how her pitch and

tone differs from the other character. She also uses the non- rhoticity which is very

usual or known for the British speakers and thus easy to identify when she uses such

words.

As non- rhoticity, the consonant R is not pronounced if not followed by a vowel,

and making the previous vowel prolonged. She also uses a glottal stopping or as also

called as a Cockney which is becoming very widespread used at the end of words.

Hearing them say those accents is quite fascinating, however while continuing on

watching this series I became more mindful of the accents and the languages they were

using.

Moreover, the other characters of the series has some combination in their

accents or has a slightly affected British accent. This is where the accent, American

accent is slightly mixed with some British accent. Also, someone in the series, Sabrina’s

cousin sounded like using the RP or received Pronunciation. His choice of word
pronunciation is clearly enunciated with the intonation used and how the stress marks

are placed.

So, as the series also uses some other languages like Latin for their incantations

and spells, the series were also using the American and British Language. These

languages could be hardly identified if you wouldn’t know the characteristics of these

languages and how are these used and placed or even on what is it. Thus, hearing and

identifying these accents were really helpful in giving us more information on how

words differ but is just really pretty similar. It also helps us in adding some spice or

accents and broadening our vocabulary of words. Words are tricky and could be lethal if

mistakenly used so, we should be careful in choosing the right words to be used

because it may have a different interpretation to others.
