What scenes do you find particularly notable for their portrayal of communication?

- Their debates. It is clear so that their debates are showing a clear example of communication.
They are handling out information about the topic that they know based on facts and statistics
from the books and data’s that they have read.

Correlate the struggles of the blacks during this period in the film with the struggles of Filipinos when it
comes to letting their voice be heard.

- Negros or the blacks are discriminated and have been treated badly by the whites. Anything that
the blacks are saying were not listened of by the whites. They have been also executed illegally
and in which it was called lynching. They are not given their rights and freedom and equality in
which that is what these characters in the film are seeking and fighting for. For their voice to be
heard and listened not just for the whites but for everyone who’s mouths are shut and been
silent from what is the right and from their expressive thoughts. While the Filipinos, they are
keeping their opinions instead of letting it out. They are afraid to talk and speak out their voice
and opinion. Not because they are afraid to let other people know their ideas but because they
are afraid to be judged by the others. They are afraid that their voice will just be put into waste
and nothing but in vain. Some Filipinos are cowards, they are afraid of something that isn’t yet
to come and something that would probably not come.

- Debates is a blood sport, it’s a combat but your weapons are words.

Just observe how powerful words are. Just like what Samantha said from the film ‘’she
don’t need a gun nor a knife’’, her weapons are her words. Words that were able to win
a battle without having physical harm to others. A battle between words and wisdom.
You see how words could create a great impact to the minds and life of other people.
Only if these words are used in a good way of communication, we won’t need or to have
those sharp steels and dangerous shooters for battles. We won’t need those harmful
things and situations to handle peace and resolve issues. Words are more than enough
to fix and let our thoughts be heard, to communicate effectively and express efficiently
our opinions for a better understanding and communication.
