SECTION – A (READING)
1. Read the passage and answer the questions that follows
Many people visit zoos to view zebras. If you want to see zebras in their
natural habitat, you must travel to Africa. There are three types of zebras.
The plains zebra can be found roaming in African grasslands. The mountain
zebra lives in hilly regions. The third type of zebra is called the Grevy’s
zebra. It can be found in dry regions of Africa.
Zebras live together in large groups called a dazzle. They are herbivores and they spend most of the day
eating grass. They can travel thousands of miles, always looking for fresh green grass to eat. Zebras are
best known for their unusual black and white coats. Most of the people believe that stripes are there to
confuse predators. Some believe the stripes help to control the animal’s body heat. Each Zebra has a
unique set of stripes. No two zebras have the same pattern. This makes some scientists wonder if the
stripes have a social purpose. Perhaps zebras use the stripes to recognize one another.
Most of the time, zebras appear to be calm animals. However, they can be aggressive when they need to
be. If a predator attacks a zebra, the other zebras in the herd will circle around the injured animal and
try to protect it.
