CHAPTER IV

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS, CONCLUSION, AND RECOMMENDATION

This chapter presents the summary and findings, in which the conclusion was
extracted and the recommendations

SUMMARY

The objective of this study was to find out the Effects of Absenteeism towards
the Academic Performance of the Grade X students of San Miguel National High
School. A Quantitative approach of data analysis was employed and non-experimental
method and random sampling were used. In determining the significant relationship
between absenteeism and academic performance of the students, Pearson R was
used.

Specifically, this study sought answers to the following questions:

1. What is the frequency distribution of absenteeism of Grade 10 students; 2. What is
the academic performance of the students within the first quarter; and 3. Is there a
significant effect between of absenteeism and the academic performance of the
students.

FINDINGS

Based on the study, the following results were attained.

The Grade 10 students of San Miguel National High School are the respondents
of this study. After the researchers collected the needed data, it was found out that
majority of the students who are involved in absenteeism got the range of grades 80-84
with a Satisfactory academic level. The researcher found out that if the students number
of absences is high they will have a tendency of having low academic performance
which leads them of dropping out of school.

Based on the Polygon Graph, it was found out that there is a significant effect
between absenteeism and academic performance because if the students number of
17

absences increases their grades will decrease but if the students number of absences
decreases their grades will increase. Based on the findings of the study, there is a
negative moderate correlation between absenteeism and academic performance of the
students. Therefore, student’s absenteeism is inversely proportional to their academic
performance. The r value is lesser than the p value. Thus, the null hypothesis is rejected
and the alternative hypothesis is accepted.

CONCLUSION

Based on findings, it could be concluded that absences really matter to the

academic performance of the students. Therefore, student’s absenteeism is inversely
proportional to their academic performance.

RECOMMENDATIONS

This study recommends the students to go to school regularly because their

attendance is very important in order for them to have a good academic performance.
They need to push themselves to attend the class regularly even though it is against
their will for the fact that absenteeism won’t make their grades increase instead it will
decrease. They need to consider the future that awaits for them if they will continue
doing this kind of behavior. For the teachers, the researchers recommend that they
must provide activities to sustain the interest of the students in attending the class
regularly such as adding points to the students who are present in that day. Lastly for
the parents, always guide and motivate the students to go to school regularly because
of the negative effects of absenteeism to both school and their academic performance.
As for future researchers, it is important that the study conducted can really provide its
significant learnings not only to the people involved in the study but also to the people
that really needs to know on it.
