Civil Engineering

Civil engineer is a professional who design, maintain and oversee

constructions projects like; roads, canals, sewage system, residential or
commercial developments projects.

Becoming a civil engineer is not as easy as we think, the person should be

skilled in many fields, so here are some of the most needed skills. First of all,
civil engineer should have an advanced knowledge in mathematics and physics
in order to be able to work with maps drawings, modals, computer drafting and
control system software. Indeed, he must be able to detect any future
problems and potential solutions for them. Second, it’s important for a civil
engineer to set up to the place and manage a group of professional in a
conference and lead them, more than this they have to be sure of the
applicable laws regulations and standards of the country where they exercise.

In order to carry out his mission, the civil engineer perhaps than more other
civil fields having the ability to communicate effectively is highly desired, they
must communicate clearly give directions with no ambiguity and they may also
listen to the ideas of the team members and benefits of their skills.

Moreover, creativity and visualization play a very important role in this field;
they must innovate and improve existing solutions like finding a way to reduce
CO2 emission. The ability to visualize the and mentally establishes the
components of a project, but it must be flexible and dynamic in order to
resolve issues before they become problems.

Among all of that we just mentioned, there are other skills as organizational
skills, we know that a civil engineer has to manage several projects at the same
time and thus must be able to balance time needs and to effectively allocate
resources. Civil engineer must present reports and plans to audiences of people
with wide range of backgrounds and technical knowledge and this require the
ability to speak and converse easily. We tend to put aside this ability but for a
civil engineer must be able to explain projects to elected officials and citizens;
this means that he should be able to write reports that are clear and
understandable to those with little or no technical or scientific background.
For me, the specialty that attracts me the most in this field is the technical
skills, I’m more interested in mathematics and physics; I’m able to bring more
in this field more than the others.

In conclusion, a civil engineer is respected because they are a major

contributor in our society and for this, we are thankful for making our daily life
easier.
