00:00:01:3 Good afternoon, I'm Daisy Grace here with your In studio
2 top stories. With the rising number of social media
users there has been a major increase in the
advertisement of fast fashion and fast fashion brands,
this is due to the never-ending clothing trends and
quickly changing styles. Mental health is something
that effects everyone whether it is good or poor
mental health, we have investigated into how fame
could be damaging to mental health and the struggles
many celebrities have faced with their mental health.
Furthermore, sexism and stereotyping are still causing
unfair treatment in the workplace as the pay gap
between genders is still around, it has been shown
that this has started to affect the youth in choosing
their jobs and carers in the future.

00:00:1:32 Social Media & Fast Fashion In studio

Fast fashion is inexpensive clothing rapidly produced
by mass market retailers in response to the latest
trends. Social media is one of the most influential
platforms for fast fashion retailers, fashion influencers
on social media are one of the main players in
accelerating trend cycles this is because large fast
fashion brands sponsor popular influencers with big
platforms on social media to promote their clothes
which leads to many people purchasing products from
the fast fashion brands, this is causing over
consumption. We consume 80 billion new pieces
of clothing every year which is 400% more than
the consumption 20 years ago. Social media
platforms such as Instagram and Pintrest have
become one of the main sources people go to for
fashion and lifestyle inspiration, influencing people
what to wear and buy. The problem with this is fast
fashion brands such as Shein, Primark, and pretty little
thing are heavily promoted on these social media
platforms, this is leading to poor-quality low-priced
mass-produced clothing being made which most likely
ends up in a land fill. However, people have started
thrifting preowned clothes or shopping sustainable
fashion which is the use of fibres from organic recycled
repurposed upcycled material. Millie went and
interviewed …....... more about this issue.

Celebrities & mental health

Often, it can be the nasty words of strangers online
that can hurt the most, especially when you're in the
limelight. Many celebrities have given us an insight to
their everyday lives on their social media pages. The
downside of this is that some people get too addicted
to this and can lead to a-lot of online bullying, hate
and harassment. Some of these stars have decided to
take a break from social media to better their
wellbeing, one of these people being Selena Gomez.
The singer has been known to do this on more than
one occasion she said to the Los Angeles times that:
social media is dangerous for many young people, she
also pointed out that she deletes Instagram at least
once a week because she often found herself focusing
on the negative comments that people left on her
posts. People leave these posts with the intention of
making people feel bad about themselves, but little do
these people know this can lead to more serious
issues. For example, the tragic loss of Caroline Flack
was linked to the abuse she was receiving online and
the press that attempted to sell stories from someone
else's pain.
Sexism & stereotyping

Sexual discrimination is very much illegal in the UK.

This is due to it being listed under the Equality Act
2010 as protected characteristics. This is often to do
with power status that some jobs are only "just for
woman" or "just for men." These workplace gender
stereotypes are still reported, and it has been
recorded that 44% (nearly half) of workers said they
still believe that jobs are suited for male or female
more. it said to be that almost one in five women have
a fear of being discriminated which has stopped them
applying for jobs. However positive progress has been
made recently, with 62% finally to say that the people
within the workplace breaking barriers are inspiring, as
the CEO role should be seen to be gender neutral.
Also, with over 60% of woman agreeing it is said that
men employees said they need to be allies
with woman within workplaces. The head of Inclusion
and engagement at Samsung Uk and Ireland Charlotte
Grant said that the information and research found
proves that the gender equality in the UK workplace is
moving in the right direction. She states, “Companies
have an active role to play in tackling this, creating a
culture where conscious inclusion is a part of
everyone’s day and where actively challenging bias
becomes the norm.” However, research found that
gender stereotypes are still prevalent in the workplace
come 2021.
