Letter From Our Pastor, Fr.
John Paul Lewis
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
This weekend, we make somewhat of
a shift in our focus for the season of Advent.
The readings, prayers, etc. of the liturgy for
the past two weeks have focused more on the
second coming of Jesus than on his birth. We
have been asking for the grace to prepare our
hearts for the Lord’s coming in majesty at the
end of time as judge of the living and the dead.
Today, on this Gaudete Sunday, our focus shifts
toward a more immediate preparation of our
hearts for the celebration of Christmas. This
preparation is marked by a couple of different
things.
First, this preparation is marked by joy.
Joy at the anticipated coming of the Lord, and
the birth of this little baby who is King of kings
and Lord of lords. This is why we light the rose
candle, wear rose vestments, and focus on joy
throughout the liturgy. But we must also make
sure that this preparation is not an early
celebration of Christmas. These last two weeks
are also marked by true anticipation, waiting
for the celebration, just as a father and mother
don’t celebrate the last two weeks of pregnancy
as if the baby has already come. They spend
that time making last minute preparations so
that when the baby comes, they can focus
properly on celebrating and welcoming the baby
into the world.
May these last two weeks of Advent
be a blessed time of preparation as we
look forward to the coming of the savior.

ALTAR SOCIETY’S TURKEY
DINNER & HOLIDAY BAZAAR
Sunday, December 12, in the parish hall.
Dinners will be ready after the
8 am Mass and until 1:30 pm. Shopping
at the bazaar will also be available. Tickets
are $10 adults and $6 for children. If you
would like to donate any handmade items
for our bazaar, that would be greatly
appreciated. Tickets will be sold after
the Masses on December 4th & 5th.
Tickets will also be available at the door
on the day of the dinner. Proceeds help
to provide for the candles on the altar,
funeral dinners, receptions, altar care
and many of the organizations that
Altar Society gives to monthly.
