Pump Swash Plate - Health Check

SMCS - 5070-535

Inspection of Pump 1
In this inspection, software can check if pump displacement is correctly following flow commands.

The following settings are required for this health check:

• The Combiner Valve must be in the OPEN position . (2000 mA)

• Straight Travel Valve electrical current must be at 0 mA.

• The Bypass 1 Valve must be in the OPEN position. (0 mA)

• The Bypass 2 Valve must be in the OPEN position. (0 mA)

• The Warm Up 1 Valve must be in the OPEN position.

• The Warm Up 2 Valve must be in the OPEN position.

• All IMV electrical current must be at 0 mA.

• The Swing Brake must be in the braking state.

• Set the engine speed dial to position 1.

The operator monitor should be displaying:

• Pump 1 displacement sensor (%).

• Pump 2 displacement sensor (%).

• Pump 1 pressure.

• Pump 2 pressure.

Adjustment signal:

1
• Pump 1 flow (%) (default : minimum flow) 10% by changing.

Inspection of Pump 2
In this inspection, software can check if pump displacement is correctly following flow commands.

The following settings are required for this health check:

• The Combiner Valve must be in the OPEN position . (2000 mA)

• Straight Travel Valve electrical current must be at 0 mA.

• The Bypass 1 Valve must be in the OPEN position. (0 mA)

• All IMV electrical current must be at 0 mA.

• The Swing Brake must be in the braking state.

• Set the engine speed dial to position 1.

2
The operator monitor should be displaying:

• Pump 1 displacement sensor (%).

• Pump 2 displacement sensor (%).

• Pump 1 pressure.

• Pump 2 pressure.

Adjustment signal:

• Pump 2 flow (%) (default : minimum flow) 10% by changing.

Health Check
Note: The "Health Check" test procedure can be accessed through the Monitor or Cat® Electronic Technician
(Cat ET) Service Tool. The following steps show the steps to access the "Health Check" procedure via the
Monitor.

Illustration 3 g06041761

The "Device Test" menu is located under "Service" that is selected from the "Main Menu."

Illustration 4 g06041768

When the "Device Test" menu is selected, the following options are presented:

• Variable Relief Valves

• Attachment Valves

4
• Health Check

Illustration 5 g06041776

When the "Health Check" menu is selected, the following options are presented:

• Boom Circuit #1

• Boom Circuit #2

• Stick Circuit #1

• Stick Circuit #2

• Swash Plate #1

• Swash Plate #2

• Manual Valve

1. Select "Swash Plate #1" or "Swash Plate #2"

2. Click the "OK" button to begin the test process.

3. Set the hydraulic lock lever to the unlocked position.

4. Hydraulic oil temperature must be between 40° C (104° F) and 60° C (140° F).

5. Move the machine to level ground. Place the stick and bucket cylinder in the minimum retract position
and lower the boom until the linkage is resting on the ground. Press "OK" to continue.

5
Illustration 6 g06043295
Set the solenoid (electrical) current for "Pump 1" at 50% (minimum speed). Use the "Slide Bar" to increase or decrease
pump flow if needed. Press "OK" to continue.

Illustration 7 g06043300

6
Press the DOWN arrow on the touch pad during Step 7.

Note: Move any implement control input to the extreme position to begin the calibration. Releasing the
control before the calibration is complete will cause the calibration to abort.

Illustration 8 g06043302
View the "Pump #1 Solenoid Current Percentage", if the pump is operating correctly, the reading should closely match the
setting during Step 5.

6. The "Health Check" test is active. Observe the pump pressure on the monitor or in Cat ET. To reset
pump flow or exit the test, release the lever.

Note: If there is a significant difference between actual pump displacement position (%) and solenoid
current (%), the pump has an issue.

The table above shows the possible root causes. By conducting a combination of "Health Check" tests the
technician can better determine which component has an issue.

For Example: If "Test Mode 1" passes with no errors and the results from "Test Mode 3" show an error, the
"Warm Up 2" is the root cause of the issue.

For Test Modes 5 & 6: Actual pump displacement position is shown on the monitor when the test is started.
Check to see if pump displacement position (%) is the same as pump solenoid current (%).
