STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
What can be done to reduce the high rate of “migration” in the community?
Miuy87um.,

REASON FOR SELECTING THE AREA OF STUDY

The area under investigation is Hopetown Village, a small rural community
located on the West Coast of Berbice Region #5 (Mahaica Berbice). This
community is known for its famous event soiree the night before Emancipation.
This community has approximately 350 households and 982 persons. Several
household in this community persons migrate every year sometimes its even the
entire family. According to the Oxford English Dictionary the word “migration” is
first and foremost a normal human activity which involves the movement of a
person from one country, locality, place of residence, etc. As a child growing in the
community, the Researcher observed that many persons have migrated . Also,
according to the Guyana Topics Demographics Population a survey was carried out
between 1975 and 2020 and there was a high increase of migration throughout
those years. With curiosity to find out why there is a high rate of migration the
Researcher was motivated to find out the reasons why.

METHOD OF INVESTIGATION
In order to obtain information for this S.B.A the Researcher used printed
questionnaires. According to Wikipedia a free online encyclopedia a questionnaire
is a research instrument consisting of a series of questions for the purpose of
gathering information from respondents through survey or statistical survey. Mr. M
Rahman stated that questionnaires are costly, responses are frank and anonymous
and questionnaires are not time consuming.

PROCEDURES FOR DATA COLLECTION
 This survey was conducted in Hopetown Village a small rural community
located on the West Coast of Berbice Region #5 (Mahaica Berbice).
 The instrument used for data collection was a printed questionnaire. A total
of 20 instruments were printed consisting of 20 questions.
 The Researcher and a relative distributed and collected the instruments by
hand.
 This was done by a random sampling selection to every house until all the
questionnaires were finished.
 This data collection period was two weeks, from January 25th to February
15th,2021.
 The Researcher and a relative collected all the instruments.
 Respondents between the ages of 30-50 responded to the twenty
instruments, 7 of which were males and 13 females.
 This procedure was necessary as it ensures accurate data and it was the only
way the Researcher had to access data which is both valid and reliable with
strictly confidentiality.

PRESENTATION OF DATA

A total of 20 questionnaires were distributed and collected. The data will be

represented in the form of statements and on diagrams such as pie chart, bar

ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF GRAPHS

The Researcher observed that the major cause of migration in the community
is job employment.
The Researcher revealed that most persons migrating are teenagers and its
international migration. According to the data collected 50% respondents
indicated that the major effect of migration is over population. Whiles racism
and lack of jobs are 40% each and language barriers and climate are 30% each.
10% of respondent stated climate change.
The researcher therefore conclude that because there is a lack of job
employment the village is facing a high level of migration.
-

STATEMENT OF FINDINGS

 The major cause of migration is job opportunity.

 The major effect of migration is over population.

 Creating job employment is the best solution to reduce the high rate of
migration.

RECOMMENDATIONS AND IMPLEMENTATIONS OF

STRATEGIES
After analyzing the data collected the Researcher is now making recommendations
to reduce the cause of migration.
Firstly, the major cause of migration is job opportunities. The Researcher therefore
recommend that if more job employments are created then the level of migration
would decrease. However, not only creating these jobs but a higher paid wage
should be given.
