Announcing the Cat® R1600H Underground Mining Loader

Caterpillar is pleased to announce the availability of the R1600H Underground Mining Loader for selected
regional sales in 2013 from our new facility in Rayong, Thailand.
Initial sales will be available for USA, Canada, Mexico and Guatemala ex-factory Sept 2013.
Sales for all other global regions will be available starting January 2014 from the Rayong facility.
The R1600H replaces the R1600G, which is currently sourced from the Caterpillar Piracicaba facility.

Engine and Axle Cooling

The R1600H is now equipped with a Cat C11 ACERT™ engine which is rated for operation up to 4,500
meters above sea level without component changes. There will be 2 engine options to suit regional
requirements (U.S. EPA Tier 3 and VR, Ventilation Reduction). New exhaust manifold and turbocharger
heat shielding is also part of the C11 engine configuration. The shielding is not permanently attached to the
components which allows for improved servicing and repairs. The engine oil filter is remote mounted to
allow easier access and serviceability.
The axle cooling system has been upgraded to remove the electric cooling fans and now uses the engine
jacket water to cool the axle oil. The system uses a thermostat to control the flow of oil so it is only diverted
into the jacket water circuit at approximately 82 deg C. When the oil temperature is lower it is circulated
through the required circuit so that filtration can still be achieved to maintain oil quality.
Cooling capacity has been increased to meet the requirements of the C11 engine and axle cooling system.
As part of the axle cooling changes, the port for the front axle housing has been raised to reduce the
possibility of impacting rocks during operation. The brake wear check can now be carried out without
draining the system oil as the port for installing the tooling has been relocated above the oil level.

Operator Environment
The R1600H has improved operator and technician features with an upgrade to the cluster gauges and use
of the CMPD (Color Multi-Purpose Display) monitoring system. With switches replacing sensors, more
information is available to the operator and technician without the use of the Cat Electronic Service Tool.
The display can also be programmed by the operator or technician for different languages and the metric or
imperial measurement system.
The Operator Present System is now fitted to the R1600H. It is a safety feature that keeps the parking
brake engaged and hydraulic implements disabled until the operator is present and the machine is ready for
safe operation.

Technology Features
The VIMS™ Guardian 3rd Generation System is now available as an option for the R1600H. This
technology enables Cat equipment to provide detailed, up-to-the-minute data about its own health and
working conditions by monitoring key temperatures, pressures, and more.

Please share this information immediately with your respective operational groups. We wish you every
success in introducing the new R1600H to your customers.
