Section I: Introduction
Introduction
Introduce your research question/topic and motivation for choosing it (your thesis statement
should appear here, i.e., what does your project intend to do?) This research will …………..

Section II: Background

From your books/newspapers/ magazines/ radio/ internet research like- academic websites,
youtube videos etc (minimum 6 sources) give some background on your topic. What research has
been done before on this topic? What do we know about it from our sources?

Section III: Methodology

Here you should talk about how you did your primary research
 What questions did you include in the questionnaire (open-ended or close-ended;
qualitative or quantitative)
 How many people did you give it to?
 Who were those people- professions?
 Did you do any interviews?
You can also talk about any problems you had when doing the research and how you might do it
differently if you did it again.

Section IV: Findings and Analysis

Here you should use your results to make graphs or tables, report on those graphs/tables (say what
is most interesting about them) and suggest possible conclusions based on the results of each
question, i.e., what do the results suggest about the answer to your research question? You could
also say why you think you got the results you did (possible reasons).
You need to turn the four quantitative questions into graphs/tables and report the one qualitative
question.

Section V: Recommendations
Recommendations are based on the results of your research and indicate the specific measures or
directions that can be taken. For example, what do you now think after research or what should be
done more for the discussed issue?
Section VI: Conclusion
Summarise. Here you should compare what you learned from your internet research and what you
found out by doing your survey. If there are any big differences you can also suggest why these
might be. If the results are the same, you can report that your research has confirmed existing
knowledge and give some examples of how it has confirmed it.

Section VII: Reference list

You need to give a reference list (Harvard style) of all the sources you used in your project in
alphabetical order.
Section VIII: Questionnaire
Include the completed questionnaires as proof of your results.
Section IX: Respondent Data
You can attach the data chart here.

INTRODUCTION:

Improving the leadership skills of students is very important to help them become great future
leaders. There are many reasons why leadership is important, such as, great leaders help and
encourage people to develop, and the leaders give confidence to others. Moreover, they empower
them how to grow in knowledge, abilities, and talents. The leaders guide the people in the right
track on how to become a leader, as well they play an important role in influencing the people
around them, by commanding, guiding & directing. Our research question is “Are we making our
students leaders of tomorrow?” According to John Kennedy, leadership and education are
indispensable to each other, which mean that school plays an important role in motivating students
for better leading qualities. Improving student’s skills in critical thinking, self-sufficiency and social
intelligence will help teaching them better leading qualities. This research was carried out to see if
we are making our students leaders of tomorrow and it will explain how those students can be
leaders and who is responsible for taking them to the right path of becoming good future leaders.

SECTION II

4
BACKGROUND:

What is leadership?
Leadership is about motivating, directing and being ahead of team members. Each organization
should have a leader, without a leader the organization cannot achieve the success (Northouse,
2019). According to Thompson (2008), "leadership is ability to influence people to achieve an
organization's or group's goals". Leader should be able to identify the other requirements through
the strong relationship between him and the team. The followers need independent and adjuster
leader to follow.

Why we need to make student's leaders of tomorrow?

The main reason of making our students leaders of tomorrow is that, to make them able to work on
their own and cooperatively with people from different perspectives within communities, all of this
enables them to serve as leaders in their selected professions. Take a second and think about
leaders you admire. They may be teachers, other students, celebrities, or elected officials. Once you
have them in your mind, close your eyes, and ask yourself:
What makes these people good leaders?
What about them inspires you to follow their lead?
How can you use their stories to inspire yours?

What is the importance of including leadership training in the school curriculum?

It is necessary to include leadership training in the schools and universities curriculum’s because it
can help them to improve students' performance in leading.

Steps of how to make students leaders of tomorrow:

1. Concentration: Adam (2014) explains that the skills of leadership help students to focus on what
is important, and they know what needs to happen to get everything done. A good leader cannot
be hesitant and indecisive in making and in deciding his decisions. As confidence is the under
structure of leadership, in which if you do not have self-confidence, you will struggle in
accomplishing the mission and you will feel it tough. Inhale trust & confidence, exhale doubt &
uncertainty (Ku Edu 2019).

2. Courage: The leaders give students an additional dose of courage. And when you are teaching a
classroom of leaders, they will coach each other through the team practice. When you have the

5
courage, you will have the ability to do anything. After all, Gordon (2018) shares that for students
the scariest point to do is to get something started. Be brave. Start a movement. To be and act as a
mentor, give positive phrases and words to the people around you, for example: to thank each
person did his job successfully. Similarly, one of the tools to be a successful coach or a leader,
acknowledge to your students and mates in a kindly way, which helps them to know their mistakes.
Unlocking people's ability to help them reach their full potential (Ibarra and Scoular, 2019).

3. Sacrifice: Leaders are aware of what you should do to go to get a team (you know the followers)
to the end line: sacrifice. Some leaders have all the perfect qualities in them except the
responsibility. As soon as they take the wrong choice, they start blaming others, so that will lead to
some people will lack trust in their leader, which might cause problems and struggles in the work.
According to Al Rahbi et al. (2017), the team is responsible and in charge of making crucial choices
collaboratively, which can boost team motivation even more.

4. Planning: Chaos is not the name of the game for young leaders. Teach project management to a
leader and they will put it into action by splitting up the project, delegating, and bringing everyone
else full circle.

5. Execution: Execution is when leaders get things done. Students who live to perform the tasks
have leadership potential because they are great planners. They know what needs to be done.

6. Team: Speaking of help, another reason to teach leadership to your students is the team aspect.
Ever since that you teach them to add and subtract, they will be in teams. Whether it is helping
each other or trying to figure out how to approach a problem, good teamwork comes from amazing
leadership. According to Hamed and Al-Ani (2016), amazing leadership does not always have to
come from you. In fact, it’s more important if it comes from your students.

How the leadership term works with other & different people:
Leadership could be defined differently from one person to another. In other words, not every
leader lead and commands the same way as other leaders. Some leaders prefer to include every
colleague in making a decision while other leaders prefer to decide themselves. So, it depends on
every leader and how they understand and deduce leadership term. Furthermore, each member
should be able to speak with one another, as this helps to inspire these experts (Al Rahbi et al.,
2017).

6
Developing your leadership skills:
The use of action learning as a primary tool for developing leadership skills and optimizing
leadership behavior is becoming more common. It is clear that different leaders have different
strategy and skills, which relies on the ability to lead the others. Developing leading skills is not very
hard, the leader should be a good listener, communicate with each colleague, give chances, give
respect, in addition to be confident. The perfect leader is not certainly who implement the big
tasks, but he assists others to implement (Northouse, 2019).

SECTION III

METHOD:

7
We are group of four members to work on our module assignment. The group members chose "Are

we making our students the leaders of tomorrow?" topic to do their research on. We did primary

research as this question is very important for future growth of the country. For survey, we

designed questionnaires. Martin (2020) describes that “A survey that has gone through the steps of

the scientific process poses a higher percentage of validity and reliability of the results”. The

questionnaire had five questions related to our topic; four of them were optional while, one is

opinion. After getting our lecturer’s approval on the questionnaire we distributed 30 one of them to

both female and male genders. There were four different age groups, starting from 18 years and

above, then from 26 and above, hence from 35 and above, ending by the people who are above 46

years. We took responses from a wide variety of people to have a clearer result on the research.

Some were normal people who did not have wide knowledge about leadership, and some were

businesspeople that had some background knowledge. We took the opinion of random people we

come across, inside the college and outside. Most of the information that we gathered from the

questionnaire was analysed and used for finding the final research result. As we were doing our

research, we found some worries regarding to some difficulties in finding appropriate information

for the topic. Another issue is that some people did not take the questionnaires seriously, so some

answer was unreasonable.

FINDING & ANALYSIS

Q1: Do you agree that students should be trained in schools to become leaders?

%3

%33

%36

The pie chart above illustrates how many people agree that students should be prepared in schools
to become leaders. Overall, it can be seen that most people agree that students should be trained
to become leaders.

It is quite clear from the chart, nearly 65% of people are agree with that, educational institutions
should prepare the students to become leaders because it can create strong personalities which
make them able to take responsibilities and know the tactic of dealing with others and leading
them. It could be also noted that more than a third of people are neutral with that because not all
of them are aspired to become leaders. On the other hand, less than one in twenty of respondents
see that training students to become leader is unnecessary.

To sum up, while most people prefer preparing school students to become leaders of tomorrow,
three percent of them are disagree.

Q2: According to you, which personality is most important for students to become leaders?

9
Hard work

Intelligence

Self-confidence

0 2 4 6 8 10 12 14 16

The bar chart depicts the personalities that students should have to become a great leader. Your
personality is how you present yourself to the world. It is how others see you (CIO 2003).
Respondents were given to choose from the three options namely self-confidence, intelligence, and
hard work. Overall, it can be seen that a large number of people choose self-confidence.

It is quite clear from the graph that most of the people choose self-confidence with more than a
half of respondents opting for it; because self-confidence and calm demean or can help others feel
more certain that they, too, can overcome hurdles or reach a challenging goal. Intelligence comes
in second with approximately less than a third. Only 17% said that hard work is most important
personality for students to become a good leader.

To sum up, while most of the respondents said that self-confidence is the most important
personality for students to become leaders, hardly any opt for hard work.

Q3: Do you think that family plays an important role in student becoming a leader?

10
Not sure

No

Yes

0 5 10 15 20 25

The chart above shows how many people think that family plays a role in making students leaders.

It is very clear from our research that the highest number of people think that family is an
important motivator to student becoming leader which was 22 of the respondents agrees with it.
Surprisingly one person only disagreed with the fact that family plays an important role in making
students leaders. Only 7 people were not sure if family plays an important role in student becoming
a leader or not.

Finally, a significant proportion of respondents agrees with it, hardly any opt of them did not agree.

Q4: What should schools include in their Curriculum (syllabus) to teach leadership qualities to the
students?

11
14%

Critical thinking skills

50% Social intelligence skills
Self-sufficiency skills

36%

The pie chart illustrates the leadership qualities that schools should add in their curriculum in order
to build a strong leader personality. It is very clear that critical thinking skills have the highest
percentage in the graph.

It can be seen that critical thinking was the most chosen skill between the skills with a half of the
pie chart, due to having a critical thinking maid can make the person think or see any matter in
many different views. In second, social intelligence skills takeover more than a third in the pie chart.
As many people believe that a leader should know how to act with different kinds of people's
personality, as he will have to make others follow him, good social skills are required. Moreover,
only a minority number of people consider that self-sufficiency is the most important skill that
students should learn.

In short, critical thinking skill was the furthermost chosen skill among the responders. While, self-
sufficiency was the lowest chosen skill.

Q5: Do you think our Omani education system is well efficient in training of leadership qualities?
Yes\No, Give reasons.

12
Majority of Omani people feel that the national education system is not well efficient in training
students in leadership qualities. However, only a few people think that the Omani system is well
efficient.

One of the main reasons why people think that Omani education system is not well efficient is that
there is no training and syllabus in the curriculum which can help the students to develop
leadership skills. In addition, there should be more programs and activities to encourage students.
On the other hand, some people agree that, Omani education system does include some activities
which can improve leadership skills for instance, Omani schools have scout teams which help
students learn more about leading others. Usually this happens in the private schools.

SECTION V:
RECOMMENDATIONS:
13
According to Patterson (2020), there are some ways schools can offer leadership opportunities:

a. Put them in charge. Involve students in leadership opportunities in the classroom—from heading

the discussion of a lesson to handing out papers. Experts say such opportunities should become
part of the classroom procedures each day.

b. Show off yours. Talk to students about why you expect certain behavior (but not at that moment
when the behavior is not under control) or how you organize your class as its leader. Explain how
leadership works in your mind and how you would like to share it because good leaders do.
Shared leadership, you can explain, demands responsibility. Look for an example of your leading
responsibilities each day and point it out.

c. Provide some good examples. Regularly mix in discussions about good leadership—whether it is

a more detailed critique of why a famous leader succeeded or a talk about the leadership that
their principal must show—or their parents or a coach. Talk about the quality of leadership in
figures who loom large in your subject area.

d. Deliver leadership lessons. Explain what leadership is and why it is valuable as a life skill and in
careers. Find good short lessons as warm-ups twice a month.

e. Get them invested in improving school culture. Find ways to get students to change school
culture by being leaders. The most common are perhaps stopping bullying, raising environmental
awareness, or promoting understanding of students from other cultures. Reward students who
report a school-wide leadership role they took on. Have an announcement every day recognizing
a leadership act.

f. Involve them in extracurricular activities too. Extracurricular activities allow students to lead and
can be ignited for that purpose. Include more students in smaller groups and encourage them to
develop leadership in the group and then school generally through a clubs.

g. Give them space. When students are given leadership opportunities—and especially when they
step up and take them on, give them freedom to struggle and even fail, but support them. Experts
often note there is no better lesson than failure, but you can help break the fall or encourage the
comeback.

SECTION VI

CONCLUSION:

14
In conclusion, students can learn about leadership by their selves but what we learned from this
research is education institutions are responsible for improving students’ leadership skills to
become future leaders, by teaching them leadership qualities. Researchers have found that
teaching leadership or providing opportunities for students to lead helps them with personal and
social skills that are in demand. It is important for students to become good leaders so they can
work independently. In our research, many people agreed that students should be trained in
schools to become leaders. Many people choose self-confidence as the most important student
personality to become a leader. Another question was if family plays a role in making student
becoming a future lead, most people answered as yes. Critical thinking skills according to our
research are important to teach leadership to students. Oman education system should take care of
students by teaching them leadership qualities in schools and universities to make them great
leaders of Oman with good leadership qualities. To end with, the definition of leadership speaks to
its core sentiment and tells us that you do not need a fancy title to be considered a leader. You do
not have to be the student body president to be a leader at your school. You just need to be
someone who cares about a cause enough to ask others to join you.
