What’s the point?

@jayclouse
What’s the point? 1
Ø What is YOUR goal in doing a podcast?

Ø WHO is this show for?

Ø WHAT does it do for them?

Ø Is that already being done for them ELSEWHERE?

Ø Educational or entertaining?

…it’s harder to compete with entertainers!

@jayclouse
Interviewing guests

@jayclouse
The quality of your guests
determines the quality
of your show.

@jayclouse
Ask yourself:

Ø Do they have a strong understanding of the topic?

Ø Are they able to articulate their perspective well?

Ø Are they easy to listen to?

@jayclouse
And also:

Ø Does this guest have name recognition within my audience?

Ø Does this guest have the ability to bring their own audience to my show?

@jayclouse
Booking guests

Ø Reach high!

Ø Your existing guest list determines your future guest list.

Ø Try and find an introduction wherever possible

Ø Let them know:

Ø Why you’re reaching out
Ø A SHORT pitch of the show
Ø How much time you need
Ø What they need to do to prepare

Ø Give them a generous window for recording

@jayclouse
Interview tips

Ø Do your homework
Ø Listen to other interviews
Ø Let the guest know what to expect before you record
Ø Ask thoughtful, unique questions
Ø Build an intensity arc
Ø Constrain your interview window for shorter shows
Ø Prepare questions, but follow conversation
Ø Ask for introductions
Ø The best part is after the interview

…be a memorable interviewer!
