PROCEDURE

INITIATE POWER CLEARANCE

 Initiating clearance by standard power isolation format duly signed by operation in charge and
authorized person.

TOOL BOX BRIEFING

 Tool Box Talk to facilitate health and safety discussions on the job site and promote a safety
culture.

ISOLATION OF MOTOR POWER

 Ensure absence of power and visual inspection of ON/OFF indication on motor feeder panel.

 Permanent rectification of job raised from daily checklist , breakdown analysis.

MOUNTING OF MOTOR
 Check the mounting of motor i.e nuts and bolts

CLEANING THE MOTOR BODY AND ITS TERMINAL BOX

 Clean the motor body with blower or with cotton waste
 Open the motor terminal and clean the terminal with blower or cotton waste .ensure no dust
,moisture inside the terminal box

CHECKING MOTOR TERMINAL

 Check motor terminal loose connections.
 Check if any wire, lugs carbonize , if present repair it.
 Check the power terminal at feeder side.

CHECK INSULATION RESISTANCE AND RESISTANCE OF MOTOR COIL.

CALCULATE POLRISATION INDEX

 Polarization index (PI) – indicates dryness and cleanliness of wind insulation. Method  connect
one chord of megger (500V) to a phase and other to earth for 10 min then note down the reading. After
that use the formulae  PI = IR(10 min)/ IR(1min).

Close the motor terminal box.

CHECK MOTOR BEARING AND ROTOR SHAFT.

 Check motor bearing by listening the noise or if the motor taking high current despite of good IR &
resistance value.
 Check motor shaft if there is alignment problem while connecting shaft mechanical rotating part.

CHECK COOLING FAN AND FINS.

 Check cooling fan is present or not , if not then arrange and place it.
 Check motor fins is in good condition or not. Fins act as good radiator of heat in motor.
POWER AND CONTROL CONNECTION OF SWITCH GEAR & THEIR RATINGS
 Check motor power & control connection by checking the tightness.
Check rating of the switch gears. Clean the switch gears.
Check the overload relay setting.

RESUME THE MOTOR POWER

 Resume the motor power and take trail. Observe the load on motor , on NO load and ON load. Note
down the current on each phase.
