Class Description Narrative - The friendly monsters of Monsterville always liked amusement parks. But they were not
let in because they might scare off the visitors! This always made the monsters very sad. So, Jesper,
their friend, decided to build one for them. Let’s help him out!
Math -
The lesson utilizes the knowledge of partitioning a circle into four parts of equal area to understand the
meaning of an angle using a circle and defining the degree measure of an angle by relating it to angles
in a circle. The lesson further extends to define the coordinate system by using a pair of perpendicular
number lines, called axes, with the intersection of the lines (the origin) arranged to coincide with the 0
on each line.
Class time 60 mins
Goal 1. (-1) Recall: Partition a circle into four parts of equal area. (3.A.G.2)
2. (0) Core: Understand the meaning of an angle using a circle. Name an angle using 3 alphabets.
Define degree measure of an angle by relating it to angles in a circle. (4.MD.C.5A)

Probing Qs
(WB-1) Discuss:
1. Greet the student and enquire about the day.
2. Do you remember what is a line segment,
ray, and line?
● A line is a straight path of points that goes
on without any end in both directions.
● A line segment is part of a line with two
endpoints.
● A ray is part of a line that has one
(WB-2) endpoint and goes on without any end in
the other direction. (WB-1)
Say:
1. Have you seen the hand of a clock and how it
moves, forming an angle?
<Student response>
2. Do you know what angles are?
● Angles are formed by two rays or
(WB-3) line segments that have a common
endpoint called the vertex. (WB-2)
3. Have you ever noticed how the arms of the
clock move forming different angles?
Let’s try to draw different types of angles formed by
them.
An angle can be right, acute, or
obtuse.(WB-3)
Do:
1. Share or discuss the narrative of the chapter
that today, we are going to build an
amusement park.
2. Build the eagerness for an exciting class by

Core Concepts
● (-1) Recall: Partition a circle into four parts of equal area
● (0) Core: Understand the meaning of an angle using a circle. Name an angle using 3 alphabets. Define
degree measure of an angle by relating it to angles in a circle.
Narrative Outline: The friendly monsters of Monsterville had always liked amusement parks. But they weren’t let in
because they might scare off the visitors! This always made the monsters very sad. So, Jesper, who felt bad, decided to
build an amusement park at Monsterville!
So, today, we will help Jesper and the monsters build the amusement park, using our math!
The first ride that they could think about was the monster-go-round, a not so merry merry-go-round! Help them make
the cabins for this ride!
TA Q1 - Divide the ride's platform into four equal parts. Each part is painted with a different color.
Question Screenshot - NOTE for the teacher-
Take a circular piece of paper cutting while
(WB-1) explaining this question.
Say -
1. Read the question.
Ask-
1. How many parts does the circle need to be
divided in?
● Ans: 4.
2. How many points will you use to divide a
circle into halves?
Steps -
1. Explain that for dividing a circle into 4 equal
parts, we will draw two straight lines that
divide the circle and pass through the center
(WB-3) of the circle, like drawing one horizontal and
one vertical line. Where both the lines
intersect at a point 0, which is the center of
the circle.
Answer Screenshot - 2. Take a circular paper cut out. Now, fold it
into half and again fold the paper into half.
(WB-3)
3. By dividing the circle into half two times , a
circle gets divided into 4 equal parts that are
fourths.
Probing Questions -
1. What is the fraction of one part out of the
total 4 equal parts of the circle?
Ans: 14
TA-Q1
TA Q2- Jesper completes one round on the ride. How many degrees did he turn?
(WB-1) Discuss-
1. We use m or cm to measure lengths.
Say -
1. Read the question.
2. Imagine that you divide a circle into 360
parts. What will be the fraction of one part of
the circle
●
Steps:
1. Explain the meaning of angles and the need
for degrees to measure an angle.
2. Make them understand that a full turn in a
circle is 360 degrees.
Probing Questions -
1. What will be the measure of an angle that
turns through of a circle.
1
TA Q3 - What measure of angle (in degrees) does the red section occupy?
● Ans: 1 degree
90
4. What will be the measure of the angle that occupies 360 part of the circle?
Probing Questions -
(This is very important and needs to be discussed.)
1. What will be the fraction of the circle
covered by 90 degrees of a circle?
● Ans: 90 degrees cover 36090 part of the circle, which when simplified by a
common number gives 14 .(WB-2)

Knowledge Points/Evidence of Learning: Finding the degree of the measure of an angle from a fraction of the part of

TA Q4 -Jesper accidentally painted a cabin, red, outside the designated area.. Write the name of the angle subtended by the
extra area.
Question Screenshot - (WB-1) Say -
1. Jesper accidentally applied red paint outside
the designated area, as shown in the figure.
Ask -
Error Questions -
1. Jesper thinks that the angle formed by the
yellow section, which is mistakenly placed in
the red cabin is ∠AOC. Is he correct? Justify
your answer.
● Ans: He is not correct as the total
angle of the section that is painted
red is ∠AOC, whereas the angle of
TA-Q4 the extra section that is painted red is
∠COB.
TA Q5 - The monster-go-round moved in succession ¼ of a round and then ⅛ of a round. By what angle did the ride turn?

360
= 45 degrees (WB-2)
5. What is the measure of the angle of the ride
that it turns?
● Ans: 90 degrees + 45 degrees = 135
degrees.
Steps -
1. Make the students find the measure of an
angle by converting the fraction into an
equivalent fraction with denominator as 360.
2. Remind the students to find the degree of the
angle and then add the measure of the two
angles calculated.

Narrative Outline: Next, they build the Dart Monster 3000, a ride in which monsters catapult other monsters onto a soft,
spongy, and really big dartboard! While the catapult is ready, the dartboard is yet to be built! Let’s go finish it quickly!
Steps -
1. Recall and let the student compare the three
circles to find which circle has all the eight

2. Help the students find out the fraction of one
part of a circle out of the total 8 equal parts.
Knowledge Points/Evidence of Learning: Recognizing the circle which is partitioned into equal parts.
SA Q2- What is the measure of the angle subtended by the straight line on the dart board?
Question Screenshot - Say -
(WB-1) 1. Read the question.
2. The dart completed half the round while
forming an angle on the straight line.
Ask -
1. How many rounds does the dart complete
while forming a straight line?
● Ans: Half a round.
2. What angle will be completed by the dart to
complete one round?
● Ans: 360 degrees, as one full round
completes 360 degrees.
3. What is the measure of the angle subtended
on the dart board by a straight line?
Answer Screenshot - 4. Ans: The dart completed half a round while
forming a straight line. Thus, the angle
subtended by a straight line is of 360

Ask-
1. What do we have to do?
● Ans: We have to write the name of
the angle subtended by area 5, 8, and
3 together.
2. How do you name an angle?
● Ans: After putting the symbol of an
angle, we will move from one ray of
the angle to the vertex and then to
the other ray.
3. What is the name of the total area, which is
subtended by sections 5, 8, and 3?
Steps - ● Ans: ∠ POS or ∠ SOP.
