INTRODUCTION

1.1. Background

The rapid development of information technology, especially the internet,

opens up opportunities for the development of better information services in
educational institutions. After the outbreak of the Covid 19 pandemic to Indonesia
in mid-March 2020, the local government issued a policy in the world of
education, namely temporarily eliminating face-to-face learning and replaced with
online learning, both at the primary and secondary school level, and at the college
level. This is manifested in a system called an electronic university (e-University).

In addition, education is very important for human life because it provides us

with the skills needed in the world of work and helps us achieve our career goals.
Expertise is in-depth knowledge of a particular field that can open up good career
opportunities for the future. Again, education is very important to us, becauseit
not only gives us knowledge but also teaches us manners and the right things.
Education fosters us into adult individuals, individuals who are able to plan for
the future and make the right decisions in life and according to the basic law in
the article I of Law Number 20 of 2003 concerning the nationals system states
that "Nasional education aims to build potential. Students to become human
beings who believe in and fear God Almighty, have noble character, are healthy,
knowledgeable, capable, creative, independent and become democratic and
responsible citizens.
We also know that with the sophistication of technology we can easily access
several sites to help us understand lessons such as Indonesian lessons. Moreover,
the subject of Indonesian is also required for students to read frequently, therefore
Indonesian language material can be understood through independent study. But
of all these sophistication there are also drawbacks, namely we need a good
smooth internet network to access learning sites and to however, we know that the
current government is not standing still and trying to help students in terms of
internet network needs and quotes for students in indonesia by providing free
internet quotes or study quotes to Indonesia students.

Government assistance is felt to be lacking because many online learning

application require a lot of internet quota and are very wasteful of internet quota
usage, making it the role of parents to buy internet quota for their children in
learning to use applications or browsing lessons, where internet quota prices are
not cheap so operator also help students in indonesia by giving discounts to users
to make it easier for parents to buy internet quota too.

In this kind of pademi the motivation of students to study independently is

greatly reduced because many students are lazy to reading Indonesian language
lessons because of the large number of materials that are not understood even
though there are adequate facilities to reach this access. Motivation is also one of
the main keys so that students are fluent and enthusiastic in learning something.
Many students are lazy to read because they lack motivation, maybe because of
many factors such as students who are now more concerned with hanging out
with friends even in a pandemic situation liike this. It is very sad to see the current
situation where the government trying to end the Covid 19 pandemic, but there
are still many people who do not obey the rules to stay at home, especially
students who are supposed to study cannot be separated from their existence.

2
After all, we ccan only pray to the almighty so that plague of this disease will be
cured soon so that it will pass quickly and return to normal.

REVIEW OF THE RELATED LITERATURE

2.1. Understanding online learning

Online learning in general is learning that is carried out electronically using

computer-based media and a network. Online learning is also known as electronic
learning, e-Learning, on-line learning, internet-enabled learning, virtual learning,
or web-based learning.

Online learning or e-Learning has been started around the 1970s) is the result
of a learning that is delivered electronically using computers and computer-based
media. The material is often accessed via a network.

Sources can come from websites, internet, intranet, CD-ROM, and DVD. In
addition to providing instruction, e-learning can also monitor student performance
and report student progress. E-learning does not only access information, but also
guides students to achieve specific learning outcomes.

2.2.Benefits of online learning

Online learning is essential in a pandemic like this, because during a

pandemic we are obliged by social distancing to maintain health during a
pandemic. Online learning also has the following positive impacts:
1. More Personal
Some online learning techniques may use one-way material, but many
also provide two-way communication. Some online learning classes
actually connect students and teachers at one time to be able to interact
like in class, but in front of a screen. The teacher will directly provide
learning material and students will be able to directly ask and discuss
it. In this way, online learning can be said to be more personal because
both teachers and students are actually having two-way interactions at
one time.

2. . Easy to document

With conventional learning methods, students need to take notes or to

make copies of subject matter for themselves. Another way is to
photocopy the material, but this method will require paper media so it
is not very practical. Another benefit of online learning is that it uses
media that allows students to record and store the material provided in
digital form. So that it can be easily accessed and learned again at a
later date

3. Environment friendly

With reduced mobility, you indirectly reduce the pollution caused by

motorized vehicles. In addition, online learning does not require paper
either for providing material, questions or data collection. This of
course has a positive impact on the environment because it reduces the
consumption of paper which is made by damaging the environment
and reduces the waste generated from its use.

4. Alternatives during social distancing

6
The Covid-19 outbreak makes us have to limit social interactions to
break the chain of its spread, including the teaching and learning
process in classrooms. However, education must continue, one of
which is by utilizing an online learning system. With this system you
and your teacher don't need to meet, but the teaching and learning
process can continue.

5. An enjoyable learning experience

Online learning has removed learning items in the classroom such as

teachers with markers and blackboards, and students with notes and
pens. You will get more interesting teaching with various media
formats be it photo, video or audio. All of them will give you a more
enjoyable learning experience.

6. A more appropriate approach

Online learning uses a technological approach that is more suitable for

today's students than the conservative method of learning in class. The
delivery methods used in online learning classes are generally a
combination of formal and informal. You will find it easier to
understand something that is conveyed in a way that is more
appropriate to your "style", right?

7. . Practical and flexible

The first benefit of online learning is practicality. With online

learning, the interaction between teachers and students will be more

7
practical because they do not have to travel to meet. In addition, there
are no classrooms for formal learning. The teaching and learning
process can take place anywhere as long as it is conducive and can
help to focus. In addition, there is no need for extras such as having to
"dress up" or "appear formal" so that it is more flexible.

2.3. Definition of Indonesian subject

Learning language is essentially learning communication. Indonesian

language education is one important aspect that needs to be taught to students in
schools. Then these subjects are then given since they were in elementary school
because from there it is hoped that students will be able to master, understand and
be able to implement language skills. Like reading, listening, writing, and
speaking. Permendiknas No. 22 of 2006, language has a central role in the
intellectual, social, and emotional development of students and is a supporter of
success in learning all fields of study. Language learning is expected to help
students get to know themselves, their culture, and the culture of others, express
ideas and feelings, participate in communities that use the language, and discover
and use analytical and imaginative abilities that exist within them.

2.4. Activities that exist in social immersion

In immersion class, there are activities that you might not find in your class
other than immersion, such as:

1. Tutorial class

8
Tutorial class is where we are given English lessons or look for our
potential related to English such as speeches, debates, poetry, stories
and many more, and tutorial classes are held after school.

2. IA (Immersion Awards)

The Immersion Awards is a competition that is held by the ISA

organization every year, the competition is related to tutorial classes
whose participants consist of Immersion majors.

3. ISA (Immesion Student Association)

The ISA organization is an organization that only aims to hold various

events such as competitions and activities that are only in the
Immersion section

4. EHP (English Holiday Program)

EHP is an activity where students are given activities during holidays

after school exams, usually this event is held every 2-3 days the event
holds various interesting and educational activities.
5. Togetherness

Togetherness is an activity that is only carried out just before the

promotion of class X to class XI presenting a small performance as an
offering for the parents and homeroom teacher

6. Hunting tourist

9
field trip activities carried out by grade XI immersion students by
conducting interviews with travelers for the results made as a report

7. Making scientific writing

Scientific Writing is one of the activities that must be carried out by

immersion students, students are asked to make scientific papers, so
that students have experience and are expected to be useful for
students as a basic exercise in making scientific papers while
continuing the collage level.

DISCUSSION

4.1. The Positive Impact of Online Learning on Understanding

Indonesia Subject For Students of XII Social Immersion Class in
MA Hasyim Asy'ariBangsriJepara in the Academic Year
2020/2021

The author uses the questionnaire method to collect data about The Positive
Impact of Online Learning on the Understanding of Indonesian Language Study
Materials for class Xii Social Immersion. Here the author uses 20 people as the
subjects of the questionnaire for further data.

The results of the questionnaire on the effect of online learning on students'

understanding of Indonesian learning material will be discussed below:

Table 4.1 Sample The Result of The Study

2 Is online learning fun? Yes 50%

Based on the description above, the authors compile questions from each
point. This is explained from the results of the questionnaire on December 29,
2020. This data is a real response from class 12 social immersion students. These
data show that all students understand what online learning is. However, online
learning can affect student interest in learning. Based on the results of the
questionnaire, many students think that online learning can affect interest in
learning, especially in Indonesian language lessons, because they prefer face-to-
face lessons and don't like Indonesian lessons, they think that Indonesian is fun
but also confusing and tiring because there is a lot of material that is must be read
carefully. But there are also many students who like mathematics out of 20
students, 70% of whom prefer to like Indonesian language lessons, according to
them Indonesian is a challenging, fun and exciting subject. Indonesian is
considered the most entertaining subject because we can find new words from
Indonesian, a subject that sometimes changes from the past to follow today's

14
language and is a compulsory subject at all levels of school from elementary to
high school. From the above opinion, online learning can affect student interest in
learning Indonesian.

Online learning has a negative and positive impact on students and can affect
student interest in learning. The negative impact of online learning is to make
someone feel lonely and lazy because students lack motivation which is more
because they are bored studying at home. Sometimes they also have problems
with the lack of an internet network. or poor signal can also be considered as the
impact of online learning, because learning online using the internet and networks
if there is no signal will make it difficult for someone to access the internet, it is
not uncommon for many students to be sleepy and fall asleep during online
lessons, and cause students to lose concentration when learning because usually
learning face-to-face in class with friends and teachers can make students more
enthusiastic about learning, more fun, and quickly understand the material
presented by the teacher. Especially in Indonesian subjects, on average students
do not like these lessons, according to them Indonesian language lessons require
more accuracy, are confusing and complicated, especially when studied online.

The positive impact is practical and flexible because it can be done anywhere,
saving time and effort, because it is practical and flexible, we can open anywhere
and anytime and also save energy because we don't have to go far to school to get
the subject matter because the material can be opened anytime and anywhere with
a smart phone

4.2. Students' understanding of Indonesian subjects

We know that students' understanding of Indonesian subjects is very high, that

is, among 70% of the 20 students who were given question number 7 on the
research table, students better understand Indonesian subjects when students are

15
in school or face-to-face learning because it can be concluded from question
number 6 in the table shows that students prefer face-to-face lessons than online
lessons and this is inversely proportional to online lessons which show a
percentage of 30%, so it can be concluded that students understand better during
the teaching and learning process at offline learning.

16
V

CLOSING

5.1. Conclusion

Based on the results of real data and information that have been discussed in
the previous chapter, it can be concluded as follows:
a. The positive impact online learning, indonesian subject can source and
clear assignment are easy to be found at any time and any place
b. 20 students understand batter about Indonesian subjects when studying
offline (face-to-face learning) about 70% of students say yes and 30%
say they understand when studying online

5.2. Suggestion

After Knowing about discussion, the writer hopefully will give the suggestion
as follow:

a. In the future, online learning will be made more comfortable or fun

and not boring because the average student feels bored when online
learning takes place.
b. The teacher not only gives assignments but also tries to have a meeting
once a week or a limited meeting (the number of people is limited)
