Discussion Forum Unit 2

Answer Q1
In college, students have to write their assignments that fit academic writing also
called college-level writing, and meet what the instructor wants his students to grasp
about the course he is teaching. To do this, students have to learn how to write as an
academician or college-level writing which is different from the high school level
writing method. This is because students at college level have to convey their
understanding of how they grasp the course through writing. For me, it was somehow
difficult when I was taking the first course. Now, academics become clearer than
before when I read the book called college success. Therefore, I would share there are
three methods or strategies of college-level wring what I read from it (College
Success, 2015, pp. 274-288).
I. Prewriting(Assembling your notes)
Rehearse, discuss, and organize what you have read, seen, or heard, and brainstormed
it. Use a logbook for the reading you have assigned. Write your answers to the
“what,” “why,” and “how” questions. Respond directly to what others have written or
said about a topic you’re interested in your notes.
II. Drafting
Before you start writing your first drafts, write a brief statement of intent or an outline
of your work. Write your article’s key point or thesis on a card or a separate sheet of
paper. Create a reverse outline for your paper. When writing the first draught, don’t
get too caught up in the details. Read your draft out loud to yourself to sense the flow
of your idea.
III. Revising and Editing
The final stages of the writing process are revising and editing. To improve the
content, you add, cut, move, or update material during the review process.
Answer to Q2
Writing a paper differs from writing a discussion post in such a way, writing a paper
requires more effort than a discussion post because it demonstrates that you have a
deeper understanding of the subject. Whereas, in a discussion post, you will be given
a reading assignment and invited to discuss your thoughts on the content in the
discussion forum. You must also express your thoughts and ideas with the
expectation of receiving a response from your peers. In general, the process of
producing a discussion post differs from the process of writing a paper. “Discussion is
generally written rather than spoken. Questions and clarifications take shape in
writing” (College Success, 2015, p. 295). The difference between writing an initial
discussion post and a response to your classmate is that when you write an initial
discussion post, you are responding to your instructor for the assignment he gave you.
Whereas, a response to your classmate is a way of communication with your
classmates. It is where you either give feedback or comment on your classmate’s
assignment or you write feedback or argument on to the comment you receive from a
classmate on to your assignment.
