Location of the air conditioner clutch
The CID 2671 diagnostic code is associated with the air conditioner compressor clutch
solenoid. The code FMI 05 means that the Implement ECM has determined that the
current is below normal.
Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the
circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit.
Verify that all of the connections in the circuit are clean and secure. If a problem with a
connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active
before performing this procedure.
Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these
created diagnostic codes and clear these diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic
code has been corrected. Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 2671 FMI 05 is active
before performing this procedure.
B. Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the OFF position.
D. At the machine harness connector for the solenoid, place a jumper wire from
contact 1 (wire E554-PK(Pink)) to contact 2 (wire H863-BU(Blue)).
E. Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position. Do not start
the engine.

The CID 2671 diagnostic code changes from FMI 05 to FMI 06 after the jumper wire is
installed.
Results:
OK - The CID 2671 diagnostic code changes from FMI 05 to FMI 06 after the
jumper wire is installed. The solenoid has failed.
Repair: Repeat this test step in to verify that the solenoid has failed. Replace the
solenoid.
STOP
NOT OK - The CID 2671 FMI 05 diagnostic code remains active. The jumper wire
does not affect the diagnostic code. The circuit is not correct. Proceed to Test Step
2.
A. Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
C. The jumper wire that was installed in the previous test remains in place.
D. At the J1 machine harness connector, measure the resistance from signal contact
J1-67 (wire E554-PK(Pink)) to contact J1-43 (wire 513-OR(Orange)).
Expected Result:
Results:
OK - The resistance is less than 5.0 ohms. The machine harness is correct.
Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms. The resistance measurement
is not correct. There is an open circuit in the machine harness. The open is in wire
E554-PK(Pink) or in wire 513-OR(Orange) of the machine harness.
Repair: Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.
STOP
The disconnect switch and the key start switch remain in the OFF position. The machine
harness connector for the solenoid and the Implement ECM J1 connector remains
disconnected.
A. Remove the jumper wire that was installed in the last test step.
B. At the J1 connector for the ECM, use a wire removal tool to remove wire E554-
PK(Pink) from contact J1-67.
D. Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
F. Observe the status of the diagnostic code. Ground the other end of the multimeter
probe to frame ground.
Expected Result:
The FMI 05 changes to an FMI 06 when the pin at contact J1-67 is grounded.

OK - The FMI 05 changes to an FMI 06 when the pin at contact J1-67 is grounded.
The ECM has responded correctly to the condition of a grounded circuit. The
operation of the ECM is correct. Reinstall the disconnected wire into the correct
spot in the ECM connector before proceeding to the next Test Step. Proceed to Test
Step 4.
NOT OK - The FMI 05 remains active. The status of the active diagnostic code
does not change when the pin at contact J1-67 is grounded. The ECM has not
responded correctly to the condition of a grounded circuit. The operation of the
ECM is not correct. The ECM may have failed.
Repair: Exit this procedure and perform this procedure again. If the FMI 05 still
exists, replace the ECM.
STOP
A. Inspect the contacts and clean the contacts of the harness connectors.
C. Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
F. Stop the machine and place the parking brake switch in the ON position.
Expected Result:
Results:
OK - The CID 2671 FMI 05 diagnostic code is no longer active. The diagnostic code
does not exist at this time. The initial diagnostic code may have been caused by a
poor electrical connection that was corrected when a harness connector was
disconnected and reconnected.
Repair: Resume normal machine operation.
STOP
NOT OK - The CID 2671 FMI 05 diagnostic code is active. The problem has not
been corrected.
Repair: With Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET) , if available, perform a
"Wiggle Test" on the sensor circuit in the machine wiring harness. The wiggle test
may detect momentary or intermittent shorts or opens in the machine wiring
harness.
If all possible causes of the problem have been investigated and no problem can be
found, you may need to replace the Implement ECM.
